Getting ready for the new sound system
I'm thinking of this:
MB Quart Q-Line QSD213
5-1/4" component speaker system
and this:
Eclipse AVN5500
In-dash DVD/CD receiver with DVD navigation
and this:
Profile AP1040
4-channel car amplifier
80 watts RMS x 4 (behind the passenger seat)
Here's where I need some help: Does anyone have photos of the door with the panel off but everything else stock? I'd like to get an idea of what I'll find when I start.
Also, Crutchfield says there are 8" speakers in the doors (along with the 3.5s), are these the Bose subs? If so, are the doors sealed enough that I could just put better 8"s in there and amp them? If not I was going to use a JL Audio sub box in the rear compartment.
Will this amp bridge and provide enough power for either the two 8's or the JL Audio 10"?
I don't think the AVN5500 is going to fit in a C5 w/out custom work. Its a double din unit, the C5 is din and a half. Also the 5510 is the same unit with a larger screen.
5.25 components are too small for the front stage IMO. Hardly a 5.25" speaker will handle below 125hz, and asking a sub to play that high will cost your some clarity and output.
Putting 8's in the doors is an option, however be prepared to do a large amount of deadening and rattle chasing if you are trying to get them to play below 70hz or so with any sort of volume.
I would stay with at least a 6.5" speaker in the door with tweet. Ikesound has the MB quart qsd216 set for 199.99 I believe. I would check those out for sure.

Stock door, minus bose, plus damping. If you want to do 'free air' 8s, they won't have the output of a sealed sub, but they will sound very good....
But... where will you put your speakers if you do this? The 5 1/4 would be pretty much completely blocked.
Whatever component set you get, go at least 6.5 on the mid. 5.25 is such a waste with the room available.
Have you heard the MB Quartz in person yet?
Thanks for the photo, it does give me better perspective.
I see your point on location, looks like I'll go with the rear box.
Doing that will give me plenty of room for 6.5's.
Yes, I've heard MB Quart, I have the P-series in my Yukon and My buddy has the Q-series in his Lightning. They're on sale everywhere (since the new models are coming out soon, I guess), normally $900 a set now half that.
I would recommend a nicer amp to go with that highend equipment. Also unless you are 100% set on the eclipse this kenwood http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6838.html is killer and IMO walks all over the eclipse the nav on this unit is hands down the best nav i have ever used, its garmin based

I'm not locked into the amp or the NAV unit yet.
I was told (on good authority) that this amp is much better than it gets credit for. Now I just need to figure out if I bridge 3-4 will it provide enough power to push a 10" sub???
I was going for the Eclipse unit because it has a 6.5" screen that I beleive I can get into the opening with very little modification (like a littel creative work with a dremel). The 7" screeens require full out rebuild of the bezel, HOWEVER, this looks like a great unit and for the money I'd save I could buy a custom bezel. Thanks for the tip!

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I'd do more research. The 5500 has a 6.5" screen because there are buttons on each side that take up the space. On the 5510 the buttons are on the bottom so the screen is able to be wider. They are both a double din unit. Neither will fit w/out at least cutting the bezel.
its a decent amp but for what you are putting in spend another 100 dollars for a quality amp. I would pair the profile with some entry level components and a stock or entry level radio

Thank you both for the comments. I got thinkng about it and heck, as much as I'm spending anyway, I'd be a fool to risk losing quality over $100. I think I'll go with a well known quality amp. Still looking for one in the 80-100w RMS range and a sub amp probably in the 200w range.
