That mostly depends on what amp I am getting since the one requirement I have is that the amp/amps go on the back wall. I could go for 2x10's or 1-12 in a stealth box... but it really depends on the amp. I am replacing the whole system and I am going with rears. I would like to brand pair the speakers with the amp.
would you conisder powering your rears off the head unit's internal amp? and why would you want to limit yourself to brand matching speakers and amp. you'll probably come out ahead of the game if you open yourself up to more then one manufacturer. If you're thinking about sticking with one I'd look into the cdt line as well. they just came out with an amp that was designed by the guy who used to make the great old school nakamichi amps. worth taking a listen too. also be aware that sites with online reviews of audio equipment shouldn't be trusted. you dont know what kind of ear they have, you dont know if they set it up correctly, you don't know if they were paid to do the review in some way.... best thing to do is go listen to the amps if possible. (if you want a good laugh check out some of the crutchfield reviews on car audio gear posted buy customers)
I know you guys dont like rears but my leg sits in the way of the front speaker so I lose a lot of dynamic range because the sound it muffled by my leg or the passengers. I like the rear to fill in that sound.
has anyone seen this site and know if their silly prices are real? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_1613.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8014.html (I know to wide for back wall but the price?!)
I really like how they have lots of picture of what your getting...but the prices seem to good to be true...and you know that that means, it usually isn't true.
To look at reviews, or just look at what "audio" people are running in their systems check out diymobileaudio.com or elitecaraudio.com. Lots of information there.
Most online review sites are pretty lame, and impressions given by fanboi's "d00d mi shYt HiT HaRdZ wIt tHiZ aMpZ"
If you are really locked in to having rear speakers, the 500/5 is a good option as it gives you a fair amount of power for your front stage and some ability to dial in the rear speakers without overpowering the front, unless you like that kind of thing. Everyone's legs block the speakers bro, unless I guess you are 5'6" or something (no offense to those of you that are)
Another option would be to go with the Memphis Big Belle (75x4, 1100x1 at 1 ohm) or the Baby Belle (55x4 I think and 600x1). Neither of those amps are very small, I want to say 22" and 19" respectively but worth a look. I do now know what your price point is, but I have a Genesis amp (built in england) that is 17" long and puts out an honest 70wx4 and 270x1 at 2 ohms on the sub channel that I run and I am very happy with.
Lot of systems layed out here in the "what do you run" thread as well.
