Default Replacing Bose door speakers in a C4

Well the Bose head unit is gone as are the rear Bose speakers. Now its time for the doors.

My question really isn't which speakers to get - but what size and how to mount them:

Should I go with 4" speakers and use the Bose enclosure box that are already in the doors?

or should I remove the enclosure box, and try to fit a larger speaker in there?

I'm just not sure if the Bose enclosure box will help or hurt the sound of aftermarket speakers.

Suggestions?

Chris

Removing the Bose Box gains you room. with the box gone you can fit a 6.5" in there with a little bit of trimming on the opening. Also you should have about 3" of depth. I know the CDT EF-6 I have in the doors fit with decent room to spare with the window down.

I just basically did what your talking about to my '96 last night. I trimed the hole w/ the 3.5" speaker so it fits a 5.25" focal component sys. I placed the tweet in the existing tweet hole. I've got pictures - I'll post them up tomorrow.

Hi auto_cran,

I purchased some great speaker plates from this website that let me mount 6.5 inch Infinities in the doors and rear. You don't need to cut any part of your door with these.

I believe they are made of some form of high impact plastic. They are durable.

I just removed the door panels, unbolted about a dozen screws. Pulled the bose enclosures out and put my 6.5 inch infinities on these brackets and screwed the brackets to the inside of the door. I didn't have to cut any part of my door at all.

Here is a link on removing the speakers from the doors:

To keep things simple, I ended up going with some 4" Rockford Fosgate speakers in the doors. Going this route, I left the speaker box inplace, and just removed the Boses speakers. The Rockford Fosgates fit right it the box nicely.

In back, I put some Alpine 6x9s - and all four togther sound really good.

Job complete!

thanks everyone
