Blew out a door sub, Help me put together a system!
Hi all,
I've got an '02 Z06, just installed a Premier DEH-P490IB and some Boston Acoustics 5.25 rear speakers.
I had planned on running the stock front speakers/subs but the passenger side blew out. Figured I might as well upgrade right!?
I'm not too big of an audiophile, so there wont be any 10" or 12" subs in the rear and I don't want to run multiple amps and such.
What do I need to get for the front to make everything sound pretty good. I'm not trying to be vague, but do I just need just the 8" subs and some tweeters? Will I need another amp for the subs?
basically since you dont wanna add a sub your best bet is to get a stock replacement sub for the doors and replace the 3.5s for some better sound. anything else will involve an amp

I appreciate the reply. I'm no good with stereos at all when it comes to equipment. When you say stock replacement, do you mean literally going to GM and replacing what's in there? Or do you mean an aftermarket sub that's like stock?
Sorry for the naive questions, I've always been an engine/suspension man, never a stereo man
i agree with penta, but not because you're not going with subs, rather the fact that you probably wont want to sound deaden the doors.
one option would be to go with what penta said (yes actually get oem speakers to replace the stock ones...check out fredbeans or ask people in a brand new post if they have any stock speakers for sale)
another option would be to get an amp and some nice component speakers and sound deaden the door to get back some of that midbass frequency you'd have lost if you skipped that step.
other then that i'd probably then suggest going the sub route
If you don't want to do much other than fixing your broken system try this. I just finishied putting dynomat extreme inside the doors(pretty easy), behind the seats(easy), and in the rear(easy but sore on the back) of my 99FRC. It has made my car much quieter and the stock system sounds much better, especially in regards to the base. Quieting done the road nose seems to have helped the base response. Keep in mind I havent added any foam yet, just dynomat. Once I add foam it will be even quieter May give you what you are looking for soundwise, especially as you say that you are more of an engine man anyway. It cost me about $280 for the dynomat and a quite few hours. I made sure to mold it into every nook and cranny in the back, not just over the top.

Check out the For sale section here on the forums, or in this section as you run across people selling stock set ups fairly often. I like the suggestion of replacing your 8" factory sub with a stock replacement, and while you are in there spending $40-$70 on a pair of 3.5" replacement speakers (that will bolt right into the stock mount) from polk, infinity, or Boston (I think makes some). If you like highs (treble) go Infinity, smoother sound (IE you don't turn the treble up on the stock radio) get the Polks. Whole scenario right run you $150, and that might buy you an entire stock speaker set up for backup heh.
also to make buying a replacement easier, the speakers in the doors are universal meaning that a simple switch of the harness location on the pod will make the pods work on either door. there is no pass and dirvers side technically
I have some front complete bose speakers I will sell you. $150 shipped for the pair. Not willing to separate out unless someone commits to buying the other one at the same time I sell this one. Hard to sell just one.

lol... seems like it'd be very easy to sell just one...seeing how the OP is looking for a single replacement
