Feedback Noise - Grounding Issue Help
I have my amp mounted against the back wall of my hatch. I have the amp ground and the radio ground, meeting at a terminal block in one of the trunk compartments. Then the 4 gauge ground running from the terminal block up the driver side door sill to to the battery. So,everything is ground to the battery. I have a 4 gage power wire running from the battery along the same path back the driverside door sill to the amp. I have the RCA's running up the center tranny.
Now, I have tried eliminating the terminal block and the whine continues, so it is not the terminal block.
I have tried "touch" grounding the amp only to the fuel pump located in the driverside trunk compartment, and that WORKED! No whining.
Now I guess, I could probably ground the amp to an attach bolt for the full pump and hope that works. But I was under the impression that running the ground back to the battery should work the best. Also, the radio id still running to the battery (through the same terminal block) and even though I can't pick up the whine with only the radio grounded that way, I'm sure it is having some effect on the sound quality.
So, my question is what is/could be causing this whining?
- Could it be due to the ground and the power running along the same path?
- Could it be because of corroded ground terminals causing a compromised connections (I did notice that the ground, and power, battery terminals were pretty corroded. But the rest of the car's electrical system works fine...)
- Or is there something else I should look into?
Finding a good place to ground seems to be a task in the C4's fiberglass truck.
Advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
