I'm thinking of installing two 8" subwoofers in the stock rear speaker locations in my "91" Vette to save some cargo space in the hatch area.
I've looked in the C4 faq but, all the picture links are red x'd out.
Also, in the available space what subwoofer would be best to use? I'm looking for good punchy hard hitting bass for rock, pop, old school and some jazz. I've read JL and Kicker compvr are good subwoofers for that space.
If anyone has any pictures of a C4 8" subwoofer install that you can post, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
The project finally got wrapped up this weekend, the front speaker mounts idea did not work. The bose enclosure was not solid enough for them. But if you have any q's...fire away.
It's sealed. It sounds good. I like the fact that it all looks stock. The bass is good, You definetly know there is subs in the car now. W/ a 10" you'll be able to hit lower freq. But for now it works for me.
The only thing I don't like is the amp placement, I'll prob end up building an amp rack to be able to put the pass. seat all the way back. AND if I'm going to install an amp rack to get the amp out from behind the seat midus well throw a couple of 10's. So I would not say that this is how the set-up is going to stay, but again it works for me.
If I can find a spot to relocate the PDX w/o building a rack, I'll prob stick w/ the 8's. For what I need them to do they're fine. (plus an amp rack will prob eliminate the storage bins) For what you're describing you want, I'm sure you'll be satisfied w/ them as well.
I just built an amp rack on top of the storage bins to relocate the amp from behind the passenger seat. I didn't like the back of the seat hitting the amp when a passenger adjusts the seat.
I have a 10" Bazooka tube which sounds really good but, takes up a lot of space. I'm still debating if I should install two 8's or redesign the amp rack to include a 10" subwoofer. I like a clean look.
Post up some pics of the amp rack when you get a chance, I'd def like to see how it came out. IMO since you already have the rack, midus well incorporate a sub in it. I am considering moving the PDX to the front of the D. seat, if that works I'll keep the 8's. If I have to build a rack I'm going to drop a 10" or 2.
I don't mind the seat touching the amp b/c it doesn't have heatsinks, and have not really noticed it get really hot. I just don't like the seat being set more forward than the driver's seat. Guess that's my OCD kicking in
Just don't get me wrong the 8"s handle what evr I throw at them, it's just they can't go as low as my previous sys would.
BTW if your trying to compare the 2 -8's to the one 10" tube I would say that the sound quality would be superior. My bro had a couple of vehicles with tubes throughout the years.
But comparing the 2 - 8"s to a high quality traditional 10" sub, I'd prob go w/ the 10".
I want to have some cargo space and not fill the entire cargo area with audio components. If I do install the 8's, I'm going to redo the amprack to cover the entire floor of the cargo area so, it'll look like one flat area with my amp flush mounted in it.
