Default ??? about relocating hvac control unit

ok guys. I am wondering whats involved in moving the hvac controls to the top opening and moving a flip out dvd screen in its place. Is there any modding that needs to be done on the brackets at all? or anything of the sort? I'll check the FAQ right now, but figured I'd check here first.

Let me guess, you're going to use a flip out head and you don't want to block the A/C vents, right?

Be careful. I think the unit might come out far enough to hit the shifter.

Let us know how it comes out.

Yea that was my 2nd concern with hitting the shifter. I think if there isn't any modding involved other than just switching them. It will be easy enough to just switch it back. Yea the concern is the blocked ac vent.

i think the top opening is slightly bigger than the hvac control...modding is required

No worries Dragon. While doing that other car, Greg forgot to take measurement. I will be getting an ipod aux input for mine sometimes this week and will have my dash apart to hook that up. I'll remember to take measurements for ya. Unlike Greg

Any updates, Was comptemplating doing this to my C5.

I have six speed though. I don't want a double din as I want to keep my lower compartment that houses cigarette lighter area for when I go with power adder and need to add in some extra's.

We Gone you are da man (or Da Woman as the case may be)

Thats exactly what I needed to see. Looks good, can you leave the screen up when the car is off? Not too sure I like it with the screen retracted, but versus having to do the cutting of the mount and the bezel mod, I think I could learn to (like it just fine).

Thanks

Edit : well I guess either you are in fact Da Man, or you have Da Man taking pictures for you, or......you have unusualy hairy legs for a woman....but thanks just the same.

Da Man works fine But I do likes Da Woman

Yes you can program the unit to stay open..just keep the head unit as high as possible in the opening so it will clear the shifter..

We Gone, check your email if you get a minute. I wanted to ask some questions on which dash kit you used and how you secured the screen unit to the frame.

Thanks

Default C5 Radio Depth

I read a post some time ago that said a double din that was 6 7/8" deep just BARELY fits after the bezel mod.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Dave. Got it done today :-)

The problem arises due to the fact that I'm relocating the Heat/AC down to where the ashtray is and installing the flip screen in the center spot (basicaly a single din opening). But . . .any of the dash kits that say they are for a C5 corvette are made to fit a din and a half opening :-/ . Makes it tedious to locate a kit that fits the width but is only single din.

Oh well, all done now. Wound up talking to an installer while I was looking at metra kits, he had a surround that we made work

Pulled the Heat/AC controller, opened it up and soldered the resistors.....poof !....no more dim temp display

Everything is all worked out as far as mounting and trim for the center console. And I decided I'm mounting the computer in the rear over the right wheel well (not gonna work out behind the passenger seat, it's only about 3 1/2 inches deep, but thats a little too much to take off the seat adjustment)

Now I just have to run forty-seven thousand miles of wire (VGA, USB, GPS, XM, power).

Ill post something up when its done.

Sounds like a good install. I mounted the computer unit under the glove box, and added a 12-disk changer in the back. I have also redone my faceplate after the pics were taken so it matches up to the AC head unit better.
