Built-In TV Tuner worth it?
Ok i have a tahoe and am looking to put a dvd player in there for the kids. I would like to get one with a TV tuner included in the HU but dont know if they are really worth it or are very poor quality. The kids are mostly gonna get the most out of it so I didn't plan on dropping a bunch of money on the HU. Anybody have any experience with the PYLE line of HU's? Or should I just get a higher end unit like an Alpine?

I have an alpine d310 in my car with the tv tuner hooked up to it. It all depends on where you are. When you are driving the quality goes down. I am unable to pick up channel 4 and 5 in most areas. I have it in the dash so I usually watch tv when im in traffic. It is so worth it to me though. i am sure the kids will love it. i love mine. i watched the mavs game while in traffic the other day and it makes traffic not so bad.

is your TV tuner built into the head unit? I see there are external tv tuners that have window mounted antennaes, i already purchased my head unit but may consider getting the external one if I could add it to my existing setup.

Mine is an aftermarket Alpine TV tuner that I have hidden in the dash that is bought seperate from the head unit. It is compatible with my Alpine D310 which is just the model number of the head unit I use. It has two antenas that you are supose to stick to the back window, but I have mine hidden underneath the dash so the antenas cant be seen in my Z06. It looks very tacky when the antenas are just stuck to the back window because they are so big. but they work allot better when mounted to the window. I am very happy with mine, and I think it's very well worth the money. If you have any questions about it let me know.

how does the external tv tuner connect to your head unit? What type of cable? I ended up going with a Blaupunkt head unit, will need to check the manual to see what kind of video inputs it accepts. I should be getting it on monday so we'll see.

I've got the Alpine W200 deck and the Alpine TV tuner in my Silverado SS. I love having the TV option. There have been several days that I was stuck in traffic, or on my way somewhere and I was able to watch the Bears game!
