Does anyone know if putting a remote start on a 2007 Z06 is possible? I only ask this because of the whole FOB thing. Let me know if anyone has any information or has looked into this before. Thanks!

Haven't seen any reports of it being pulled off. You have multiple layers of stuff to get through there. Not only the FOB system (you can't grind off the key on a fob when you bury it in the dash for the starter!) but the clutch has to be depressed as well.
Congrats on the Z... but don't hold your breath on the remote start.
You have to park it in neutral. And aside from the potential runaway car, the c6 discharges the battery if left parked in neutral. At least, it used to...

That was only true in '05, the shift-lock was removed from '06 on. But the fob constantly in the car would leave it in a state of readiness and may result in faster battery drain. Also the car would honk at you every time you close the door.
No way in the world I would leave a fob in the car. It would be like leaving the key in the ignition, you're asking for it to be stolen.

Acutally you only have to shut it down in reverse... As soon as thats over, you can put it in neutral or any gear...
I am new to the forums and just picked up my first Vet two days ago.
I don't see any reason why this shouldn't work. The biggest issue to me is the fob. The easiest work around that I can think of is to wire a relay in series with the battery that feeds the fob. When the remote start button is pushed, the fob will be instantly powered, then the car will start. As long as the car is in remote start mode, the fob will maintain power. If the break is pressed, or the remote start module stops for any reason, the fob's power should drop out.
Has anyone tried this? I've wanted to build this device for years, but I've been lazy. I had the same issue on my 2005 Acura RL with the fob.
The Vet is my only car, so I'll be driving it in winter. I am very interested in having a remote start.
what you need is a Manual transmission auto start unit that has some safeguards. when you goto shut the vehicle off, you pull the parking brake, hit a button on the remote and shut the car down, the car will stay running until you exit and hit the lock button. then it will shut down. what happens is it knows the vehicle was in a safe starting mode when you left it. now if you come back and disarm the alarm, it will shut down the remote start circuit so you would have to follow procedure again. it ties into the clutch switch so it will shoot a ground through the wire so it will start.
they also make a proximity key bybass that will pull the battery out of the key, when you remote start the car it will power up the key and allow the vehicle to start, then when it shuts down, it will remove the power from the key.

so yes it is should be able to be done.
IMO you wouldnt want to use a manual trans specific one because for the computer to shut down in the c6 you have to put it in gear and then it will shut down and you can pull it back out of gear

The putting the car in reverse to shut it down was only true of the 2005 model year, that has been eliminated.
i thought on all c6s u had to put it in reverse to shut it down but then u could put it in neutral... i guess i just put em all in reverse out of habit

GM finally talked the government & insurance folks out of it after the '05 model year. The column lock stuff was supposedly an anti-theft measure. I guess they proved the rest of the system was measure enough against theft. My '06 is a manual, I know that of which I speak.

theres quite a few fail safe methods of killing the car while out of gear. And i would rather have the added measures of installing a manual trans unit so you don't risk some heavy bumper damage.
