I just installed my Blaupunkt DVD35 yesterday and noticed that I can turn on the radio even without having the key in the ignition...I called Crutchfield and they said that I needed to check my red wire (12 switched power) to make sure there is no power going to the HU when the car is off, I just now checked it and its working right. With the ignition off there is no power going through the red wire, as soon as I turn the key I can see the voltage on it. (using fluke) I checked the yellow (constant 12v) and its good...ground is good. All wires soldered together and taped...anybody know what gives? Is this normal or some kind of "feature" blaupunkt has? I'm worried it will start draining my battery even IF I take the detachable face off...

Can't imagine it being a feature.
Double check you have the switched power connected to the proper wire on the head unit. Disconnect all wires but the Switched + and the ground. Start reconnecting wires until the problem returns. It sounds like you have a couple wires either crossed up or shorted.
Ok i called crutchfield and he knew exactly what i was talking about...he said he believes it was a feature of the head unit and asked me to hold on. I remember reading in the manual that you can listen to the radio for up to one hour after you take off the faceplate, but i assumed it would only do that if you were turning off your car, not if you were getting back in the car and putting the faceplate on. The tech came back and said that it is designed to run for up to one hour once you put the faceplate on, and will automatically shut off...which it does cause i was in my truck yesterday and sure enough after an hour it shut off. My concern was it draining my battery and he said that it wouldn't. As far as the constant 12v, i thought about cutting it, which would work but wouldnt i lose my station presets?

Now THAT's a first!!

I would be concerned as well though (about the battery), especially if your amps stayed powered up. I know every one of my vehicles would kill the battery with the amps on for an hour.
yea i'm good, i tapped a different source for the remote signal for the amp...so the amp is off when it needs to be, the head unit is the only thing i was worried about...i guess i'll monitor the battery and see what happens. I have noticed it takes JUST a little while longer to crank than normal but dont know if its just in my head or what...battery is about 3 years old.
Ok now i have another question. As I said, after changing the HU I've noticed that the truck takes just a second longer to turn over...i was outside on lunch for about 20 minutes listening to the radio and for S&G's I tried to start it, and it took a good 3 seconds to start...what are the chances that the battery was going bad before I changed the HU...would changing the HU make it more noticible that the battery was going bad, i.e. more drain on the battery...
