Where have you folks installed your Antennae for you radio (Satellite). I not getting the best reception and looking for a new location.
I'm going to help greenie99 some day soon here run it to the frame rail behind the tail lights. Reports are that it works pretty well there. I'll take some pics as we do it and report in on his impression. If it works well I'm going to run mine there as well.
My experience even with an antenna on the top of my Avalanche is that Sirius loses the signal much more easily than XM. I've read stuff which explains the whys of it, but that didn't stick in my brain.
I tried Sirius with the antenna installed under the dash grill and had poor reception. I switched to XM with antenna in the same location and am very pleased with results...........

On my sirius, I tried mounting the antennae behing the tail lights on the bumper support and could not get great reception. I also tried mounting it on the dash, but still the reception was poor. So then I got fed up with it and mounted it on the top part of the bumper, lol. Here is a pic.
I just finished my install and moved my XM antenna from the roof to behind the tail lights in the process (had XM in the car before I started my install). I dont get near as good of a reception as I did get... in fact it cuts out so much that I am strongly debating moving the antenna back to the top of the car.
Do I dare say that XM just comes in better than Sirius? I switched from XM to Sirius when I installed my Eclipse. I put the Sirius antenna in the exact same spot as the XM antenna and drive the exact same way to work each day. There are several places where Sirius will cut out, but XM never did.

You'd be correct if you dared to say it.
I forget the technical details, but the systems they use are quite different and Sirius doesn't have the same coverage as XM. Vague memory that Sirius's bird isn't geostationary.
I just switched to sirius after having xm for 3 years or so. I like the music and sound better with sirius but it does cut out from time to time under overpasses. Still, I am more satisfied with the sirius programming in spite of the trash talk programs.

Mine does that too under large overpasses.
are the XM antennas different in some way? I figured satellite was satellite.. the same as the GPS antennas and Sirius antennas...

It's not the antennas that are really different (slightly, but still interchangable for practical purposes) it's the satelitte broadcast system used. I've seen the details posted here before but they didn't stick in my brain. What it comes down to is that the XM satellite system just provides better coverage than the Sirius system.
