Default 88 Dash speaker covers (Bose) Help

I just bought an 88 that is in great shape, but the speaker covers on the dash have faded over the years from the original black to a sad looking blueish tint. Two questions: 1) How do I get the covers off the speakers, do I have to take off the top dash panel, or will they pry out? I dont want to rip the fabric... 2) can I dye or paint them to get back to black or is it easier and a better idea to just order new covers?

You have to remove the dash pad and remove the 3 7mm bolts from the bottom of each grill to remove them. The last time I checked the non-bose grills for the 84-89 were discontinued. I don't know about the bose grills.

Thanks Dave, I think if I can get the covers off, I can find some way to dye them back to black or paint them... whatever will work. One more question, and it might be easy once I look, but how hard is it to take off the dash cover? Is it just a few screws? Thanks!

Mark, it's not a big deal. There are a couple of 7mm screws along the bottom front of the pad, and a couple of screws in the defrost vent. After you get the screws out, just pull the dash pad to you.

Mine were in the same sorry shape, to take off the dash remove the screws in the front all the way across, then in my case since there were speakers already there I had to remove the a piller covers, don't forget about the 2 screws that are located in the middle vent down next to the windshield. As far as dye or paint. What I did was remove the covers from each side, turn them inside out and swap the right and left. A glue gun puts the covers back on then. It turned out great for me.
Good luck
