Originally, my speaker plates looked like this (grille removed)
the woofer and tweeter were both angled at 30 degrees to the door panel. What i overlooked was that the transverse angle (angle relative to the ground in this case) was the same as the angle as the centerline of the speaker plate. in this case it was 45 degrees elevation.
This wasn't exactly the best angle and based on mesauerments, i found i could get significantly better imaging by reducing the transverse angle to 35 degrees. The procedure wasn't difficult but since i had the plates apart, i decided to take a few pics of what they look like w/o carpet to give a better idea of what i did with the MDF.
After re-aiming both the woofer and tweeter, the front channels are much clearer (especially the tweets)
For those of you wondering, I used 3 layers of 3/4" MDF for the woofer mount. This barily fits in the door panel with the grille on....but it does fit.
