Intermittent Radio Operation
To date: The radio cut out the other day and went to static. I tried a CD and that worked fine. Ergo, the antenna, right? No! As I was troubleshooting the other night, the radio started to work - the coax was not even hooked up to the receiver, so I know it isn't that. I drove to the store and it quit again. I have looked at just about everything that I can think of or glean from the manual. Anyone have any ideas?

Had a similar problem this past Spring, radio would cut out and come back at random. Turned out to be the receiver unit (in the back behind passenger seat in the '93). I sent it to United Radio in Syracuse and they rebuilt it for something like $75 and it works fine again. Be careful if you take it to a local shop; I took the car to one in Des Moines and they wanted to replace all 4 ampliefier/speakers at full price for. You can call United Radio and talk to one fo the folks there to get a handle on the problem.

Thanks for the input guys. I believe I have narrowed it to the receiver/pre-amp behind the passenger side. I tried both AM and FM, neither functions. I removed the coax from the antenna and unplugged the preamp and the thing would fade in and out. This to me seems that the antenna/preamp are not functional at all. I can hear some low signal most of the time, so I believe everything else is ok. I will call united radio and see if I can send it to them for repair (antenna just replaced).
