Coupe recommendations (Avic? JL?)
Goals: very clear even sound. I listen to a lot of rock and new metal, but also like some classical and electronic. So, I want very clean clear highs with good imaging. The lows should be present and strong, but I'm not looking to bounce my neighbor's windows with it, and I don't want to fill my hatch with speakers.
Current thinking:
HU: Avic-Z2. I really like the nav system on this unit and also like the idea of having an on board hard disc so I don't have to rely on my iPod all the time (even though iPod integration would be important to me). I will likely bi-amp this to seperate the mid/high from the rear sub.
Door speaker: JL mid/tweeter component set. Focal could be another possibility. I currently A-pillar tweeters which I like, but have heard this is difficult in a Corvette.
Hatch: unknown subwoofer, probably in a stealthy cabinet, unless I can use the existing speaker locations. Need advice here.
Any thoughts? Other recommendations?
A good, single 12, will provide adequate bass, with about 300watts. I'd get a pair of components up front, a single 12, and run it all with a 4 channel amp. There are a ton of great 12s out right now, I've been partial to Image Dynamics (and ARC) subs.
If you just want to fill in lower frequencies and not 'slam' then even a single 10 should do nicely.
the PDX 4.150 usually does 160x2 330x1, and is very clean sounding.
A pillars aren't a problem in the vette, if you know a little fiberglass.

I haven't done any listening as my first Corvette will be coming in July/August and I've only heard the stock stereos in the Corvettes. The Bose system seemed boomy and thin on the high end.
I'm having the system installed by a professional. I've done a few a long time ago, but don't have the time now. Better for me to pay to have it done right.
Having said that, I have built and designed my own MTM monitors for home use that turned out well. I may have the sub amp and wiring run for me, but actually make the sub enclosure myself.
