Default Rear speakers in C5 Vert

I've got the factory system. The rear speakers suck! I know the front Bose speakers are amplified, but are the rears as well? Just wondering if I can easily swap out the rears with some aftermarkets. By the way, how do you get at them? Thanks.

Swapping out the rears, and leaving everything else stock, is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Only the 8" door woofers are amplified in the stock system. the 3.5" in the doors are not amplified.

Rear speakers are 5.25" and can be easily swapped out for aftermarket speakers. (note: use coaxial speakers here; most component woofers speakers have too large of a magnet and wil hit the gas tank pipe on the drivers side.)

Thank you. Are they easy to get to in a convertible?

I've never tried to swap speakers in a vert. You'll have to wait for sombody with a vert to chime in.

Hard to get any easier. Lift the hatch and lower the top (only because now you can do it standing up beside the car ). The cover pops right off, just give it a tug.

They are easy to replace, just take your time removing the covers. I replaced the rears in my 02 vert with Infinity Reference 525i's. Cleaner sound without high cost.

Thanks, that's what I was planning on using. Someday down the road I might want to replace the whole system but for now I just want to improve the sound using the factory setup.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I installed Infinity Kappa 50.7cs speakers in the rear of my 01 Vert over the weekend. The 5.25 woofer swap is very easy, I had to be creative when installing the tweaters. The difference is dramatic. You can actually hear the music now.

The radio and front speakers remain stock.

I'm looking for speaker recommendations to swap out the front door speakers, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
