Default Final questions...I hope!

OK so I have searched around and asked a few questions but Im still a little confused. I plan to replace the HU and speakers in my 02 Z. My questions;

1. I can just use the $10 wiring harness to connect the HU, but I will lose all of the door chimes etc, correct?

2. Using the above method will the stereo still stay on until I open the door with the key out?

3. Is there a way to keep the door chimes etc? What part do I need for this? GMCRV1 is just for replcing the HU but keeping speakers correct?

Thanks!

the door chimes are not part of the stereo. You won't lose those. You will lose the ability to keep the stereo on when you pull the key and before you open the door. Its called RAP-Retained Accessory Power. There is an adapter for it, but its pricey for the one thing does.

If the door chimes are not part of the stereo what does the soundgate adapter do. I though thats what it was for?

The Soundgate adapter allows you to connect you new head unit to your Blose stereo system and retain the stock speakers.

For the price of the adapter, you are better off replacing the Blose front speakers with some component speakers and either disconnecting the rears all together, or just using them for 'fill.'

Door chimes remain normal, regardless of what you do. (I think you might be confusing the C6 with the C5 when it comes to that.)

You can use the $10 GM adapter instead of the Soundgate adapter to connect your new HU, but you will still need to pick up a 'switched' 12 volt source. There is a loose wire in the passenger side foot well, or you can tap off of one of the switched fuses in your fuse panel. Check the C5 FAQ for more information.

Hope this helps.

All good info! Thanks. regarding the RAP, I found the adapter from soundgate, but it doesnt seem to be listed as compatible with the vette. Surely there is someone else as **** as me with this that has hooked up their stereo to remain on like the factory setup. Id like to keep that function.

Look here for the Soundgate that works for the Corvette:

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=378

I think I am confused about what you are trying to do. Do you want to retain the factory speakers and just replace the HU?

Do you want to retain the 'stereo stays on' portion along with that?

Or do you want to replace the HU, front speakers, etc...?

What do you want to do exactly?

Im looking to replace the HU AND speakers (looking at diamond audio components). and I want to retain the 'stereo stays on' feature. Sorry if I was confusing on that.

I believe the Window Valet people make an adapter that allows us to retain the RAP.

Found it That rocks. So if I understand all of this correctly; with the $10 GM harness and the accessory valet my new HU and speakers will operate just like the factory setup and I will lose no features at all!

Are you willing to pay $100 for an Accessory Valet just to keep your radio on until you open the door?

Why not just wire up a couple of relays to do the same thing? It certainly would be cheaper.

Check this out in the FAQ: Wiring relays to retain RAP

Thanks for the tip. The accessory valet also allows for the dimmer function. If I can get the wiring figured out then Ill save my $100. But as Im sure you all can tell, Im no electrician and sometimes being lazy is expensive!
