Default Need some help trouble shooting

I recently installed a new Pioneer HU, ED components, ED 12" sub and a kicker 6500 in 02 Z06. All was working great until I installed the HUmount faceplate.
First I tried to wire the power side of the faceflate to the orange and white wire from the harness, no worky. Then I found a thread and talked to penta reminding me that the faceplate power needed to be spliced into the HVAC imumination wire (cream one on the end). I had the faceplate ground wire bundled into my other ground wires.

Now the stereo is picking up all sorts of loud buzzing, the plug that goes into the HU for the RCAs seem to be really touchy (if I wiggle it or move the hu around I get a bunch of crazy popping and loud crackling noise.
I disconnected the faceplate wires to see if that is the problem but I'm still getting all of the symtoms described above. I'm afraid I'm going to damage the components from the crazy popping sounds. I didn't change anything else. What could be going on? Should I try replacing the pigtail that goes between the HU and teh RCA's? I've checked all of teh other connections in the harness. All of the connections seem tight.

pioneers are notorious for blowing internal fuses. first thing i'd do is hook up the amps to a different source (ipod, home dvd player, etc...) using the rca's. if the snap crackle pop stops then it's your head unit. Next try taking a piece of wire and grounding it, then attatch that to the rca's ground (not the pin, but the metal on the outside of the rca) if that fixes the poping then it is the internal fuse and you could just leave it wired like that or send it back to get fixed...or something i havent thought of

Did both. The Ipod works just fine through the amp. When I wraped a wire around the rca and touched it to the hu chassis the popping did not go away but went crazy every time I touched the wire to the metal on the HU.

distortion/clipping will blow a speaker, so i'd keep an eye on it.

did you unhook the h/u mount? did it stop making the noise when you did that?

The HU went back to the store last night. I guess I'll pick out another Pioneer so I can use the Pioneer Ipod interface. I had the 7800mp model which is no longer stocked, any suggestions?

Depends on where you are going to buy it, and what you want it to do for you. The DEH-7800MP used the CD-IB100II or CD-IB100 iPod adapter, right?

If you are staying with Pioneer and want to use the adapter, then you need to know what is compatible with the adapter and the new HU you want to buy.

According to Pioneer, that adapter is compatible with: Full Rotary Commander Control models: DEH-P9800BT, DEH-P980BT, DEH-P880PRS, DEH-P7800MP, DEH-P780MP, DEH-P6800MP, DEH-P680MP

Check here for the CD-IB100II: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...492523,00.html

Some of the newer Pioneer units just have a cable vs. the interface. You might be able to sell your adapter and go that way.

I have been looking at the Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS and I like the features it has. If it wasn't available, I'd probably go with the DEH-P980BT... but that's just me.

Hope this helps.
