Default C6 JL Stealthbox opinions

Looking to hear from those that have the stealthbox installed in their C6 or have heard one. Do they sound good?

I like mine just fine. Certainly not the most impressive sub setup but it looks good, allows for storage of the top and provides enough bass to satisfy me. It's a little pricey for what you get (it's just a 10w3 in a sealed enclosure) but the quality is pretty good. You can always swap out the JL driver for something a little more serious too.

My only complaint is that I've got a few rattles in the hatch area at certain frequencies so I'm gonna tear apart the car this weekend to install some additional deadening/insulation. That's an issue with the car and not the enclosure though.

Thanks for sharing that info, I'm also in the fence whether I should pull the trigger on the JL box or go custom.

Audio Dave makes an excellent custom C6 box for less than JL No rattles, & the top stows away with no problem. Pic:

I like the look but I dont see how its much cheaper than the stealthbox after you add the subwoofer. Plus the sub has to be 5 inches or less for the mounting depth. The JL 10W3 won't even fit it.

Yes, the JL Steathbox is expensive, but trust me, it's worth EVERY penny.

I ran a JL 250/1 amp to power the Stealthbox and everyone thought I had a lot more in the back than just a 10in sub and 250watt amp. It truly sounds quite impressive. The bass is DEEP, and sounds amazing, even with the factory headunit and factory speakers. In fact the rest of the speakers sound better because you can take some of the low end load off of them.

What the JL box does that really makes it worthwhile has to do with it's design and construction. It essentially turns your entire interior cabin into an enclosure and everything just sounds so good. There isn't any distortion or rattling either. JL did their homework to ensure a perfect fit with optimal results.

Sure you can get a cheaper solution, but I don't think you'll end up with the same quality results.

If you are on the fence, and you can afford it, jump over that fence and don't second guess it. As soon as you hear it, you'll be glad!

I still have to reinstall it in my VY C6, as I got rid of my black one. It's killing me how weak the factory system is without a good sub!

I used Audio Dave's with a dual coil shallow Pioneer sub.

Well, other than the fact the carpet color looks much better on Daves, if his is 320.00 plus a good sub for 150.00 or so, thats about 470.00 vs 650.00

How is this not much cheaper???

Thanks

P.S.
I don't have either...

I dont ever buy anything at full retail so I would expect to get the Stealthbox closer to $50 - $100 off. If I could get the same JL sub in the enclosure its a pretty good deal but I cant due the mounting depth restrictions.

It's been generally talked about that the JL woofer that is used is fairly lowend.

Sorry, but I still don't see an answer here...

I have been quoted 599.00 as well but it's still not 470.00 and there are plenty of good woof's that are shallow these days...

A lot in the 3.0 to 3.5 range...

My problem is that I've only used JL audio subs my whole life (well once I used Polk MoMo subs and they sucked). Your probably right and I need to give a few other brands a chance.

I use the JL in my Avalanche, (another stealth) and it does sound good, my only real issue with it is the apparent "Vette tax", the same configuration is usually much less for cars like the 350Z, S2000, etc...

I stopped by the local car toys and was told the stealthbox was $799

Talk about Vette tax. Called another place and was told I could get it for $550

I knew he was trying rip me off. Needless to say he lost out on over 3K worth of business for trying to scrape off an extra $150 bucks.

Actually, the references to the JL Audio brand are fine. Sorry, but posts promoting non-forum vendors are prohibited... here are the commercial posting guidelines:
