There is a new player in the car audio market now, and so far it's only sold up here at Future Shop stores in Canada. Energy, who make home audio stuff, is now getting into the car audio game too.
Their stuff is reasonably priced too, their 6.5" components set is $299 CDN, which is priced lower than a lot of the high end stuff. On the Canadian Car Audio message board the few people who have heard these speakers all say they sound very good.
I wasn't planning on getting these components until next year, but one of my Infinity 6.5s crapped out on me this week, so now I'm going to pick up a set of these Energy speakers this afternoon. As luck would have it, after I made my decision to buy them already and I checked the Future Shop website this morning, they put them on sale for $50 off too. Perfect timing!
I had a set of Energy bookshelf speakers way back in the day when they were EPI.. or at least my memory tells me they're on & the same. Always liked their sound and their 5.1 home sets get very good "value" reviews. Looking forward to your report.
I was hoping to get them installed this afternoon, but my friend who does my stereo work was unavailable, so I'm going to have to wait until next week now.
I did listen to them on the board at Future Shop and was able to directly compare them with the Infinity 6012i speakers, which is what I'm running right now. I will say there is a night and day difference between these two, with the Energy speakers sounding much much better! And even with the Energy's running off deck power on the sound board, they put out some real nice mid bass, so I can't wait to hear how they sound when I hook them up to my Fosgate P200-2, which IIRC is putting out about 85 watts rms per channel (according to it's "birth certificate")
I do have one question though. These Energy speakers are components, but they come with the tweeter attached to the center of the speaker, and can be removed if you want to use them as true components. Would you guys recommend leaving them as is, or would you recommend detaching the tweeter and mounting it elsewhere?
