Default Electrical problem after D3 install

Hey, I just got my car back from getting the AVIC D3 installed and now the lights wont come on the AC controls. One of the buttons was burned out prior to bringing it in, but now all but the AC button and the main display are out. Was this caused by the install or did it just burn out? I have noticed the display has not been as bright in the last few days...anyone with any knowledge of what may be causing this?

When you pull the radio you pull the AC controls. There are a few possibilities here. They could have popped a fuse, which if this is a C6 would probably be one of the fuses in the passenger footwell. I think C5 may have a fuse box there also, not sure. They could also have pulled a wire loose out of one of the harnesses that go into the AC controls.

Since you paid somebody to do it and it's screwed up, I suggest letting THEM fix it, that's what you paid for.

Don't think its a fuse, the main display works still, the buttons are all functional, and one of the buttons still lights up. Every other one, including the *****, dont come on.

If the main display still lights up and the A/C controls still function, then it's probably the small lamps/light bulbs on the circuit board that are burned out.

I recently replaced a set on a friends A/C control head. (And fixed the main display being dim/off.) There are 14 lamps soldered to the circuit board that light up the buttons on the controls. You can get replacement lamps from Radio Shack or Parts Express.

Hope this helps.

Where did they connect the "illumination" wire that the D3 needs to go into night mode?

In my C6, I think the AC controls get the interior illumination signals off the CAN bus. When I installed my D3, I used the wire at the instrument panel that shows the external lights are on -- I didn't see any good signals in the A/C controls for that function.

I guess I am saying that if they used a wire from the A/C controls for the illumination signal, maybe they were wrong.

Does your D3 go into "night mode" when the external lights are on or when the orange LED is illuminated behind the passengers visor?
