The LF front speaker has gone south & only provides bass fequencies. I would appreciate any suggestions of replacement pairs brand/cat. no./sizes based on your experience.
Re: `95 Front Speaker replacement size/brands???? (PleasantonGuy)
if in the dash......any 4x6 plate will work......i prefer the pioneer tsa-4615 over a kappa plate ......it has a better high response.....why I dont know but you can hear the difference. the kappa will take more power if amped but i prefer the pioneer......listen to them & you choose.........
Re: `95 Front Speaker replacement size/brands???? (Smash)
I would stay away from 4x6 speakers and crutchfield as much as possible. The seperates smash showed you are super speakers but need much more power than you have on tap. I would go with a good set of coaxial 5 1/4" speakers that just plug in. Check http://www.BostonAcoutics.com. They should have a set for around $120 and they will sound better than anything GM ever installed. The problem with 4x6 is either you get an oval speaker or a 4" and a tweet. Oval speakers inherantly distort sound vs round. Also, an oval in that size really has no travel distance, etc. to make it work well. The only oval I would consider is 6x9 but they won't fit your location anyway. The other is really just a 4' and a tweet. I have yet had anyone be able to show me a good 4x6. The 5 1/4 will blow any of them away. (not that I'm opinionated on the subject or anything.) I have 6 1/2 seperates in the front of my car. But it requires cutting and power to add these so stick with the 5 1/4.

Re: `95 Front Speaker replacement size/brands???? (Smash)
If they are the same as my vert, they are not 4x6. Crutchfield says they are but they are wrong. They are 5 1/4 round. Look at these. You can upgrade them with a larger amp later and they will work with the insufficient stock power. http://www.bostonacoustics.com/Produ...=4&SeriesID=23
Focals will sound great but they need a good amp. 4x6 are all complete crap. Never been more than an abourted audio experiment. They are oval(distorts sound) and have no room for travel(no bass, even mid bass). Complete waste of time.

Re: `95 Front Speaker replacement size/brands???? (Jay Axson)
Haven't done the install redo yet. The Kappas look OK but that's still a 4" mid. He doesn't fit 4x6 without cutting. 5 1/4 will fit without cutting. 4x6 is used in the dash of the vettes before they redid the interior in '91? They don't fit in the later C4s but Crutchfield has it listed there because they never updated their installation manual. Pretty poor. I'll be redoing the front in the next few weekends or so. I am remounting my Boston Pros with 6 1/2 mids in the stock locations. I'm planning on building sealed boxes and probably custom speaker covers in place of the stock amp and speakers.

I found used locally a pair of Boston Accoustics Pro 6.5 separates, Rally series 10" sub in a bandpass enclosure (not sure what that means :) ), and a Hifonics Zeus z700 amp. I am supposed to check these out tommorow. The price will be $500 - $600 for all of it.
I have a 92 LT1. I have an Alpine 7878 HU on the way. Any thoughts on this set up. How difficult will it be to cut the 6.5's into the stock enclosures?
I don't know much about the amp, and I can't find the sub on Boston acoustics website. The stuff is 2 years old.
