Alright who has done it? Mine is completely aftermarket but you cant tell except for the tweeters in the doors panels and the hide away kenwood cd player. Some of it was put in my the previous owner, and i am looking to just step it up a little bit. I am in the process of designing a fiberglass box that lay up against the back wall of the trunk where i will mount a new amp i will be getting and the six by nines that are in currently back there right now. Has anyone done anything and can show some pictures, or shed some light on any problems they had??
yeah i agree, another concern is when i take my targa top off, the corners rest where the speakers currently are, so id have to be able to create the fiberglass box/contraption around that fact.
My thinking with the C4 interior is to take advantage of the lack of size.
Work the front stage as much as you can. Add the appropriate equalization and/or processing and put in a quality sub. A single 10" is more than enough in a C4 cabin, it can also be made to fit low enough so as to not invade vertical space.
I am also sure that something special can be done with the rear storage bins and subs. The ABS module makes this a bit annoying, but the other enclosure has enough space to fit a 10".
Another option is to put a pair of 8" subs in the factory speaker enclosures. They are big enough to support a good 8" - think JL Audio 8W3v2 or 8W7v2 (the W7 may need more room). Sealed and simple.
I have done a full blown system in my 89 using a single 12 in the back with a 2.5 cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 32 hZ. I am still able to put the targa in the back in their holders when I want to cruise around. The dash was also reconstructed to house left, center and right channels for a gapless soundstage. I have pics in my signature showing the install.
My 92 vert has pretty much no room, but I still managed to stuff it with enough stuff fror pretty good sound. the 6 cd changer is right behind the seats in the middle flanked by 2 ,6 inch bazooka tubes with JL subs in them (just used the tubes to hold them. they go right up against the wall behind the seats. The Kicker amp just fits in between them. Removed the rear speakers and covered the holes with plexiglass panels I cut and back painted black. Cut apart and fiberglassed the original Bose speaker pods in the front to hold 6 1/4 kicker shallow mount speakers. Damn thing kicks pretty hard and with the subs firing right at you're back , pretty decent bass as well. So you can get decent sound in a vert. you just have to work at it.
