I just replaced my Bose Head unit with an Alpine CDA-7875. OMG what a differnce it made. So much crisper. I also added an Amp (Punch-120) and a 10" Sub(JL Audio). Awesome sound. I can't believe how much better the quality is. I will try to post pics when I get a chance.
I just finished doing the same. I went with the 7873 and SPR coaxials front and back (5 1/4 and 6 1/2). The top end and mid range are beautiful. This week I should have the sub put in and that should fill in the bottom range. I'm probably a little biased, :D but I think it is the best sounding system I have ever heard. I'm glad I went with Alpine all the way.
I am glad I bought the Alpine also. I have not done the Door Speakers yet, ran out of money. But when I get a chance I am going to install MB Quarts all the way around. Have you thought about getting the XM Reciever Add-on since the CDA-7873 is XM-Ready??? If so, Do you know what the price is on that item???
I'm looking at the Alpine 1.5 DIN units for my 2000 FRC. Just curious, but why did you go with the 1.0 DIN head unit? Was it a fit problem or did you just prefer the smaller footprint unit? Was it enough depth in your C5 without physically altering any things? i.e. air ducts, etc.
I went with the CDA-7875 because the 1.5 DIN they had was not XM-Ready and only had 45-Watts per channel compared to 60Watts Per channel on the CDA-7875. I had mine professionally installed and they had no problems fitting it.
Buy it. Period. I will get some pictures of the install and the Terk Sr2 antenna. I figured out a way to install it that doesn't require any drilling and looks factory! :)
The sound is phenomal. Do a search for my XM thread in off-topic. I go on and on about it! :)
