Hi guys,I am a C-3 guy but today the wife bought a sweet 90 coupe with 58,000 miles on it,the only real problem is that when you turn on the radio,a loud unbearable squeel comes out of the right door speaker, and I am not familiar with this system, but have been told that the Bose systems were common to have this problem, what if anything can I check or does the speaker just need to be replaced? Any input on this matter is greatly appreciated !
In the Bose audio system, each speaker is powered by it's own individual amplifier. Each speakers amplifier needs to be repaired or replaced as they go out which is expensive ($75 + $10 shipping for each amplifier's repair) at www.DoctorDons.com
Most C4 owners find it a lot cheaper and better sound quality to just replace the entire audio system with a new head unit, component front speakers, amp and 10" subwoofer.
You can remove the Bose amp/speaker assembly and send it off to be repaired but, eventually the other speakers will also, go out.
By the time you have repaired or replaced the entire Bose audio system (including head unit repair), you will have spent at least $800 not including the time and labor it takes to remove and replace each component. A new aftermarket system with decent components mentioned above, would cost around the same $800.
