My Pioneer unit just took a crap on me (DEH-P3500) and want to replace w/ something that I can use my iPod with. Until now, I've always had good luck w/ Pioneer units, so was thinking about their DEH-P4900IB unit, but I heard the iPod isn't very user-friendly with it (something about the scroll function being very cumbersome to use), so was thinking *maybe* going w/ Alpine???
This is for a '76 modified for DIN size receivers. Was hoping to keep it in the $200 range (nothing too fancy).
I know this is WISHFUL thinking, but does anyone still make a unit that illuminates green? The DEH-P3500 had multiple colors in the display, but at least the buttons illuminated green, which match my white-faced gauges perfectly (I have the green "condoms" on the bulbs... if you have Auto Meter gauges, you know what I'm talking about !)
Any Pros or Cons w/ either Pioneer or Alpine???
Thanks!

Reason: clarification
I don't know if stereos are worth fixing anymore, but if there are any "audio gurus" out there, the unit comes on, but only plays for about 2 seconds. This is with either the radio or CD.
