What is the cheapest improvement for a non Nav Bose. Ex. a simple speaker swap. All the solutions in the facts section seem too complicated
Since you say "non NAV" I will assume that you have a C6. You can get marginally better performance by swapping out the 3.5" in the doors and maybe the 5.25" in the rears with coaxials. I wouldn't bother with the dash speaker, it doesn't carry much of the sound stage. My recommendation would be to replace the two 3.5" speakers in the doors and see what you get. Folks have used Boston, Infinity and Eclipse speakers for this, depending on what you like.
Yes it is a C6. Would it help to dampen the doors?
I can never hurt, but for just a simple speaker swap I think it's overkill. You're not driving any more power so you're not introducing anything that is likely to induce rattles.
I'm going this route - just ordered Infinity replacement 3.5" units for the doors and dash.
One thing I noticed after ordering is that the Infinity Kappa speakers are 2 ohm impedance - I assume the Crutchfield
site would not have recommended them if I could only use 4 ohm speakers....right?

I installed those Infinity's in a friend's car about a year ago and he hasn't had any trouble. Only time I would be concerned about it is if you play music at high volume all the time.
What would be the cheapest change beyond a speaker swap that would give a significant improvement? Thanks
Unfortunately it's a slippery slope. Speaker swap will give you a marginal improvement. After that it's a new amp, sub and front speakers. You have to define your goal. If you think that adding some real highs (the Bose system has no tweeters) via the coax will be enough then go that route. But if your goal is a truly good sounding system, starting over is your only choice.

Good to know.
BTW - was the install on a Corvette or another vehicle? If it was a vette I'm curious to know what kind of difference it made.
I'm also looking at putting the 5.25" Kappa's in the back, but I'll take it one step at a time....then again, why not just do it while I'm at it....
