Just double checking the wires for an install non bose, no onstar, 1LT 07 Coupe. The GMCO has 3 wires I'm unsure of coming out of the harness plug that goes to the cars harness. Can you tell where these hook up to or if I need them?
First is an Orange/White wire (I think for Illumination, does this go to the orange/white coming out of new headunit?)
Second is a solid Blue (power antenna? Not needed?)
There's no illumination wire in the harness, that is controlled by the serial data bus in the C6 via the "sun sensor." But that does you no good for an aftermarket stereo. The only thing I've seen someone talk about doing is to run a wire to the taillights that only come on when the headlights are on. But that would be to the illumination wire of the aftermarket head you're installing, not the GMCO.
Blue/White is normally an amp trigger, not sure why this is in the GMCO.
I looked up the install instructions PDF for the Peripheral and don't see any mention of these wires as separate things to connect so I'm a bit in the dark. But aftermarket stereo wires are fairly standardized at this point, so best guess if you hook like-to-like you should be ok.
I called Peripheral and they said,
Blue wire would be used for power antenna
Orange/white wire was for dimming (positive trigger)
Solid Orange was for dimming (negative trigger)
He did make a point in saying the orange/white would trigger the aftermarket head unit for illumination.
In my case it could/would be used for the navigation, as it will change the mapping to night time mode (as well as other stuff) when it is activated.
Komoman, are you sure the data bus does not have a trigger to activate the night illumination? Or are you saying the Peripheral harness is the one without a trigger?
