Default Cadence vs ED

I am looking to replace a Fosgate 5 channel amp in my car (600.5) I am looking at the Cadence 5100 and the ED NINE.5...

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated, I tried to search but find no info on either...

Thanks in advance!

So any other points or counterpoints on the amps?

Here is my criteria,

C6 Coupe

DLS 8.2's in the front
Eclipse 5.25's in the rear
JL Stealth Sub

Would prefer not to run a multi amp setup, not looking to rumble the people in the next block, want to hear music with the top off, want to listen to music with the top on...

Thanks!

P.S.
VinceC5, I guess I wont ask! (-: (but feel free to offer if you like!)

LMAO, tell us how you REALLY Feel..

If I could Sell my ED NINe.2x amps I would go with a NINe.5

The NINe.2x are great amps, but I would rather go with an all in one now..

Please share your experiences. Several sites I frequent are quite critical of equipment, and they all love Cadence.

I'd really like to hear what the problems are, before I plunk the change down on the new Cadence 5 channel.

What HU are you running? The ed amp is good up to 8v pre-out input. It will also give you plenty of head room and one of the only amps these days that are actually rated at 12v and not at the all too common over rated 14v. Besides eD has one of the best warranties and customer support around(5yr).

I am running a Kenwood DNX7100, the pre out's are rated at just 2 volts...

I saw the same thing about the ED amp and the fact it's power output is rated at 12.5 too... That is pretty nice.

I am also open to any orther suggestions on 5 channel amps...

I would like 100 or better to the front, 50 minimum to the rear and 200 or better to the SUB...

With all the talk about openess or clairity, I have an older DENON 5 channel (4x40 1x80) and it's amazing how much cleaner / open it is vs' my Fosgate... I would like to have that in my car (sound 'type" not the amp)

Thanks to all!

I did quite a bit of work for a local shop several years ago. Mostly higher end (not comp cars) installs in more expensive vehicles. These customers were the more discriminating types. The shop sold PG, Alpine, Sony, Cadence, RF, ID, Infinity, and Pioneer for the most part.

It was my experience that the Cadence components were crap. Cadence was absolutely the bottom of the barrel compared to other components the shop had. Everything had noisy pots, cheap switches and poorly mounted barrier strips. Invariably, the Cadence stuff would come back for repair for issues like these. The amps were certainly cheap power in a small footprint, but at a cost. They had terrible control over drivers (poor damping factor), made nowhere near the power of some other similarly-rated amps, and IMO looked like hell (unless you're 19 years old and have a thing for neon and mirrors in your trunk, with 20" spinners on a 10 year-old rusting hulk). The stuff was garbage.

In the mean time, RF, PG and Alpine to some extent have certainly dropped from what I would consider quality components (the Best-Buy factor), and it's certainly possible that Cadence improved. However, looking at the ways they spec their amps, their prices and their sales pitch tells me that's unlikely. If ground-pounding is your thing, have at it. If you want quality and the best from good speakers, look elsewhere.

The bottom line was this: when a customer dropped the $ for a moderately expensive install, it was embarrassing when the car came back because an amp failed. This became routine with Cadence. The shop ended up only selling them off the shelf to kids who knew what they wanted before they walked in the door and planned on self-installs. Anyone who was paying for a nice clean install with above-average components got the PG or RF amps because they sounded very good and we could count on them.

Interesting, so it was an overall quality issue. How recently have you had issues with Cadence?

I last worked directly with Cadence about 3 years or so ago, but the shop continued to sell it. They dropped Cadence about a year ago. Up until then it had been a wholesale issue where several brands were bundled together. If you wanted to carry brand X, you had to also carry brands W, Y and Z.

The way they spec their amps on their website should be a big red flag.

Interesting, I'm going to talk to the Cadence rep about it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

eD is big on sq with all their equipment, so you can't really go wrong with them. It meets all your requirements too.

interesting about cadenece. It's good to hear reviews from more than one source and wonder how they are now.

According to caf - ED had a lot of unfulfilled promises, played the blame game, and had poor customer service. The whole original 9.1 fiasco did a lot to damage their reputation.

I got burned hard by their initial series of sound deadener. Apparently you had to call to find out it was worthless, and if you just went by the websites information, then you didn't do enough research (EDs own words to me, when I complained that their deadener sucked.)

though like I said, recently, they've really turned around. Their new deadener doesn't suck (its butyl, but the backing material does suck) and their customer service is much improved.

Yea from what I hear they have really turned things around. I've just started using them withing the past year, so I can't comment much on before that and what went on. What kind of problems have you had with the new backings? I've put it in a bunch of cars recently and haven't had any problems. Sorry you had problems with em

the backing is coming off on mine, but also, importantly, it's not foil. It's some kind of plasticky-mylar stuff. So, from what I hear from experts, its very inferior at damping because of that. And I could believe it, my doors ring like a church bell even with tons of edead.
