I run my Dynaudio 8" component set with no high pass filter.

They get fairly low. Size and excursion will be your friend here.

agreed, a buddy (nyc vette) has NO subs in his car and bass with focal polykevlar 4 inch component set and 8 inch focal woofers in his doors. My car with the same 4 inch component set and the 6.5 midbass extension to match has less low end in the doors by a HUGE margin. and I have probably 3x's the deadening he has in his doors. Go large (8 inch with a spacer) if you want low end in the doors.

if you don't have a specific make/model prefernace, a good way to tell a speaker's excursion is looking at the magnet size and the width/construction of the surround. Speakers with large magnets and surrounds were designed to have a better low end "kick" and do very well when mated with a deticated midrange and tweeter.

Some speakers like my alpine SPX 177r comps have surrounds that have folds in them allowing for tight powerful low end without sacrificing midrange. They provide excellent bump for 6.5"s

keep in mind though, some companies put huge magnets and surrounds on for the bling factor.

If you want total steath try a set of JL6w0 subs with a 4" component set in the doors. I did this in a friend's install and it was pretty impressive. If you are a huge audiophile, you may not like the transition between the 6" sub and 4" comp, but the majority of folks will not notice the dip.
