I just put in a Pioneer PNR-SIR1 to go with my AVIC-D3, and I a mgetting super crappy reception. The unit is next to the Bose amp at the passenger's feet, and I ran the antenna to the back, through the back wall, and have it sitting on the metal bumper. I have heard this works good, and it seemed like it should. I can barely get any signal. This sucks. What are my other options? Let me know guys. Thanks.

Only one I've seen reported as working even OK was mounted up on the car itself by the spoiler. Even then it's spotty. I'm using the stock XM antenna and it works OK but any kind of tree cover and it's bye-bye. My experience with a magnetic antenna on my the top of my truck wasn't a whole let better so I've just decided to live with it. YMMV
My wife has a Sportster, and I ran the antenna just to on the dash, and it works okay. I already have my GPS antenna under the center speaker grill or else I would just put it there. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I have the same unit with my D3 also in footwell. I have my antnna sitting on top of the A/C vents behind radio. Absolutly perfect reception. I have my navigation antenna there as well. there is plenty of room, I got the information about where to put them from here from a thread about a D2 install in a C6. Very simple to place.
Here's the link, good pics for antennas http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1518095

Just to be sure here.... is your sat Sirius or XM? I ask because the thread you referenced is XM and XM is way easier to get a good signal.
If that does work for Sirius I have a friend that would be very happy!

I have Sirius Dan, it works great. The factory navigation antenna goes in the same area, I saw it in my service manual so it is a good reception area. There is nothing metal above the area its all plastic dash. I put the sticky metal pad that comes with the D3 on top of the vent and just stuck both antennas on it.

I knew it was a good spot for the NAV, but my experience with Sirius reception lead me to believe it wouldn't be a major improvement. My friend had even tried it up in the hoop and didn't have much luck.
I'll let him know and maybe we'll give it a shot! Thanks!

I used to have the GM-SIRI1 converted from XM to sirius using XM factory antenna. The reception was terrible, now I can even get the sirius in my garage.
Thanks again for all the help. I went and pulled my antenna from the rear where I had it, and plugged it back in and put it on top of the vert. Now it is giving me an error that says antenna error. I am thinking I must have broke the antenna somewhere. I think I have another one at home, I will have to try it.

I decided to put the antenna under the grill of the center dash speaker, and it still gets choppy reception. At least now it gets it most of the time, but it still cuts out every once and a while. It is annoying. Basically, it is sitting on my dash, with no obstructions, and it still sucks in my opinion. I would imagine at this point, the next best thing would be the roof! I am defiantely not doing that though.

You're fighting a couple of things that you just can't overcome - the shortcomings of the Sirius system and a fibreglass-bodied car. My friend who gets crappy reception in his C6 coupe also has a BMW 328cxi with factory Sirius. His reception in the BMW is much like you report with the antenna in the dash - generally good but certainly not excellent. And BMW is able to tie into the metal body to extend the surface area of the antenna - can't do that in C6.
you can probably look into a fm direct adapter from sirius model # fmda25 got one at radio shack for 20.00 i had all sorts of static and noice hooked this up it all went away as soon as i plugged it in look into it it might help you
Hmm, guess it depends where you live in the country as to reception. You did use the square metal sticky pad I hope, I guess that gives you better reception I'm not sure though.
I used the GM-SIR adapter to convert my car to sirius and first plugged the factory XM antenna into the unit. Drove around for a week, terrible reception. I then ran the antenna that comes with the adapter to the front of the car, and put the wire between the front windshield & dash, till i got it to the center of the dash. It now sits right in fron of the front window defogger grills, and my reception is a 100x better, though still not XM. All the wires were hidden as well, it took me 10 minutes to get from the front windshield to the rear of the car.
