Here's the story.
I get a Stealthbox installed with a 250W amp. I drive it home, it sounds great. After parking in my garage, I listen for about 15 min at considerable levels (without the engine running, of course). Around midnight, I get the
urge to listen again. What's this, no bass? All of a sudden I have no bass and I can hear an arcing coming from the passenger fuse/relay box. What the .... I try again, this time everything dims and I can still hear that arcing coming
from the relay box. It turns out I killed my battery. After charging everything was cool. The arcing sound was actually the relays chattering back and forth because of the low voltage.
A week later...
Tonight I worked rather late and was actually looking forward to driving after work. I'm sure you can understand. I turn over the ingition and nothing. All the lights are nice and bright. Try again. Nothing. No noise, no click.
So I pop the hood, disconnect the 250W amp and viola. She starts! What the hell? I displayed the battery voltage before starting the engine when she was dead. 11.9V. Once started 14V.
Now before starting 11.9V.
After getting her home, I reconnected the amp and started her up. No problem. I'm confused.
Is it possible I weakened a relay from all that chattering. Are any relays in the ignition signal path?

Sorry for the long story.

2001 Black/Black coupe.

11.9volts with stereo running or just ignition switch in the on position, ie prior to starting? Its possible your battery's actual output charge/voltage level was closer to 11 volts, but your car still should have started at that level. The relays shouldn't really have been affected, some terminal arcing may have occured, but if that were the case you'd be noticing other problems as well. If it still persists go back to the shop and have them check your alt/bat and install again. Good luck.

Your amp could also be on all the time and not wired to turn on with the radio or even the ignition. It would be constantly drawing power and killing your battery. If it has a light, check the light to make sure it turns off when you turn off the sterio and stays off when you turn off the car.

Check what 92 triple says, but it could just be that when you turn on your ignition, you amp comes on w/ the radio, therefore taking away just enough juice to keep you from starting. If your amp is wired to the turnon lead of the head unit, just turn off your HU before you turn off your car. That way, it will not be on when you start it, and it won't sap any extra current.

You must have the engine on!!! If you don't, there is considerable drain on the battery which can A. Warp the plates so your battery does work B. Fry your amp b/c of below 12v fluctuations C. Fry your speakers b/c of bad signal crated by amp to toast them. :(

Keep the engine running when listening to music loud and you can besuure that something bad of that sort won't happen. :) (just a warning)

If you keep the volume down while starting, the sub amp will not draw a lot of power. The DRL's and the engine itself, draw a lot more power than a sub amp at low volume.

I would question the ability of the installers. How do you know they even wired it up correctly? Get them to give you a wiring diagram of how it was installed.
