This one just got finished up. The Image rep was raving about their new 6x9 component set. We were skeptical but they sound great! If you didn't want to take up room with a sub these would be great amplified. Plenty of midbass! One of the best sounding systems we've turned out here at Rockstar Designs. Check out the pics:
White C6 with Z06 fenders
how about that amp rack!
four Image Dynamics 8" subwoofers
Image 6x9 midbass on custom baffle in the door
T-tops still fit on the factory mounts
Oh yeah, the Corvette logo on the amp rack lights up!
These things are so much fun! Enjoy corvette lovers!
Can you buy those 6x9's on line. I wouldnt ind gicing them a try.
No insult intended because speakers are the most individual of any component, but I truly don't understand why someone would put an oval speaker into a round hole. The shape of soundwaves makes an oval speaker inherently inferior - the only reason they exist was because once upon a time it made sense for rear decks & dashes to allow for larger speakers and still have them fit.
Drop a 6.5" component set or maybe even a 7" or 8" componenent set using that opening. IMO you'll get much better results than you ever would from a 6x9.
Difference of opinion on speaker choice aside, that's a nice looking install.
yes, very nice install (i'm usually not a big fan of having the corvette logo strewn about the interior but that custom pod looks great), but why the 6x9's?
they do sound fantastic. Crank them and they hammer too!
As far as the 6x9 thing....I know I know. We were skeptical at first too. Me and Rocky have both been in this game for years now. We've gone through our beat down the block phases, our sq phases etc etc. I too at one point thought it a sin to actually use rear speakers and god forbid and oval speaker! But eventually I realized, I want a little sound coming from the back. I don't have a dedicated sq competition car and in everyday listening I like some rear fill. We build real world systems that the customer will love when they take it home. We try to tailor what we do to the customers tastes as well. They want everything up front? No problem! They want speakers all over the car, screaming from every angle? No problem! Front stage, we don't need no stickin' front stage! haha! Anyway, both of us know you can't get the same linear response from a oval speaker that you can from a round speaker. As the cone moves, you get distortions in the cone since it isn't round and thus it colors the sound. Theoretically this is true. Can we tell a difference? Maybe, maybe not. So okay we were skeptical. The the fine folks at ID explained what they were trying to do with these speakers. They wanted to take advantage of the bigger openings that a lot of cars have these days, 6x9's and 6x8's, so they could have a bit more outout but still produce a quality sounding component set, one worthy of the image dynamics name and reputation for not only a quality product but a SOUND quality product. They engineered the cone on these babies to compensate as they move to avoid as much coloration of sound because of nonlinear movement as possible. These aren't your daddy's old blue Jensen 6x9's or what they guy down the street has in a four pack in the rear deck of his impala. So they wanted us to try them out in this car, granted it doesn't have a 6x9 hole but we went for it. They really turned out great, and they definately move some air. If you wanted to, you could probably get away with a set of these without a sub if you aren't totally concerned with subbass or want to give up space with a woofer box. We were impressed. We do a lot of Image and we've grown to trust those guys when they make a recommendation. Not to mention we worked with our rep at Tweeter and grew up listening to Matt Bogardts cars at competition when he used to work for Audio Designs here in Houston and we were just fledgelings working at Best Buy and mom and pop shops. So anyway, I'm going to try to get some more info for you guys on these because I dont think they are on the website at all yet. Thanks for the questions though! Hope I didn't ramble on too much.
