What does everyone think of Sony Xplode subwoofers? I plan on hooking up two 10 or 12 inch subs to a 1000W Xplode amp. Also I want to keep the stock HU, at least for now. Will this pose a problem for upgrading the rest of the system in the future? Has anyone done this and what do you think?
It is very easy to add a sub amp to a C5, since the HU has pre-amp outputs on the rear panel. Search the archives. You will have to splice some long RCA cables into the HU wiring harness though.

What type of amp and subs do you recommend? I was looking to do something with relativelty decent power, maybe dual 8s or 10s. Maybe even put in a pair of tweeters on the window pillars. Any suggestions?
Well from my audiophile limited experience, xplodes really are not at the top of the car audio game. The better subs are image dynamics (thought to be one of the best), JL (i have these) Memphis, Eclipse, Kicker, and many more, but sony really is not really on that list.
I have seen a complete sony sisytem in a Ferrari, and it was awesome, but you must get their highest line for it to be good.
JL subs are great, I have my whole system powered by a Alpine 5 channel amp.
running a system off the stock head unit won't be a problem, many people do this initally.
for C5, many people have gotten the bass bazooka's. That are small and have a built in amp and is at a decent price, there's a nice spot for them right behind your seats. I hank Shanman has one in his actually.
They suck next to real subs. They are OK if you are picking them from a place like Ciircuit City, Best Buy or Crutchfield. Then again, a Saturn is a good car if you are going to Saturn, Fiat, Kia, or Hyundai dealerships. But would you trade your vette for one. I think its a crime to put bad equipment in such good cars. Of the subs Son93SL2 listed, the only one worth anything is the JLs and they are only good. The others are crappy to and they are better than the Sonys. I would look at the JL W3 or W7, Boston Pro, Soundstream Reference, or some better AudioBahn subs for some real bass. Most of these are under $300 for a single sub so they are quite reasonable.

Any opinions on Rockford Fosgate equipment? Just wondering because I know a place where i can get them priced relatively cheap compared to their retail prices.
I'd only look at their amps. They are OK but not the best. BTW, I used to live on Castlepoint in the Yellow house 4? doors down from 9th.

I have a pair of RF 10s and a pair of JL 10s in my Mustang and Corvette (respectively) and the JL's Kick Serious Booty over the RF. I built a custom enclosure for each and messed with both enclosures in both cars and the JLs were better every time. Besides that, the JLs cost less.
Shop around (I'd go with something other than sony), and if you're going to have enclosures built for them, be sure to tell the shop how much room you're willing to lose to your subs. You'll find that 2 8" subs or 10's, maybe 1 12" will give you plenty of low bass IF DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED PROPERLY-in a small enclosure, and remember you pick up 12 dB in cabin gain. You can undersize a box on a subwoofer, and boost your Q, but you'll lose your lower bass levels. You wanna see 25Hz, don't boost the Q on a larger woofer. Remember the physics....
Are these for the truck? You can get some great premade boxes for trucks. Also, they have much smaller cabin areas and the sub is basically up against the seat so you can feel the bass with less speaker. A pair of 10" would probably be perfect for a truck. Anymore and it would sound great but you'd have to stand outside to listen to it. If you need help with the install, let me know.
Here's a good box. Check out the dual 10" sealed. http://www.mmxpress.com/boxes.htm
Put a pair of Orion or JL W3s in there and it would crank. Amps under the seats, seperates in the front dash/door. Done. Would kick some tail too.
You can also look here for other boxes, etc. They make a box for a bandpass speaker. Say put one or two in there with 10w3s?
