Upgrade your alarm system

I followed Alan Loo’s C5 Alarm upgrade which is posted somewhere in this forum with a few modifications. This is what to do.
First find Alan’s page. I printed it out a year ago, but I know it’s still available. What’s important about the modification is that you can add almost any sensor. The first thing to realize is that most of the alarm sensor are available in most large cities so you don’t have to throw out the existing alarm system to upgrade. I opted for two sensors from a company named DEI; the 508D dual radar sensor (for interior and exterior movement) and the 504D shock/impact senor. You can read more about them on the net – try http://www.drdetailshop.com or any other source. I picked both of these sensors up for $79.36 including local tax.
Next you tap into the alarm circuit on the BCM. Alan’s instruction was good. What was not noted was that all you need to remove is the 32 pin connector, insert you new wire into the correct pin location (pin #9), then reattach the 32 pin connector. This really only takes about ten minutes IF you know what you are doing. Test the wire connection (have your key fob handy) and you are half way there.
Next remove panels as necessary to mount the sensors you’ve chosen to install. I mounted the shock sensor on the U shaped metal frame to the left of the steering column. The radar sensor I mounted to the tunnel just to the right of the shifter.
The total installation (IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING) would take about two hours. Since I tested every step of the way, it took a day…I had to recover from the blown fuse that the spare wire harness is attached to when I grounded it out.
This is really a great mod and you really find out how these devices work.
Take care,
