Default mp3 player question

Hey everyone,

Just to start off I did search and read a ton of stuff before posting this haha. Anyway I have an 02 coupe and I ADDED the harness and 12 disc cd changer about a year ago. I'd like to go over to an mp3 player instead so bear with me cause some of this stuff I don't know.

I had intended to do an ipod but itunes does not currently work with vista 64 bit so I'm sol there. With that in mind I was going to buy a microsoft zune and I don't know how the connections are different or similiar on the two units. So I'm wondering do I do the famous best buy harness that states its ipod specific that goes from the cd changer in the back to an ipod connection or do I buy this other harness I read about where people hook into the connection in the footwell where the cd changer harness starts?? I just want to know if i get a zune and what harness do I need some kind of adapter, etc. Thanks for helping out someone new to this area of car audio!!

Personally, I would reccomend going with the Ipod, not the Zune. The main reason is that you will be extremely limited in the aftermarket solution for the Zune. You more or less limit yourself to the Aux input route which means you will need to control your music on the Zune rather than via the head unit.

Until Apple and MSFT get their act together, you can go the route of using the free VirtualPC 2007 software to load a Windows XP virtual machine on top of Vista. You can install iTunes in the virtual machine and then run it from there. When iTunes works on 64-bit Vista, you can reload Itunes in Vista and dump the Virtual Machine. The other option it to kill your 64-bit Vista install and load 32-bit instead. It will work on your system and there is no advantage to 64-bit with less than 4GB of RAM. Some people will try and tell you there is, but with the lack of 64-bit software today, the additional security crap of Vista 64-bit only adds pain with little to no actual benefit to you.

Do yourself a big favor and just get a Mac. Life on a computer will be easier in every way.

If you are not looking to use the radio to control the iPod, then use the AUX BOX. The Aux allows you to add any type of self powered player.

Use the AUX2Car (not the Ipod2Car). It is also attached to the connector from the 12 CD changer. I have also connected a 3.5mm splitter line (2 male to 1 female connection) and I am able to listen to my Ipod or XM Roady (depending which one is turned on, is what you hear).

I want to do the same connection on my 2000. I do not have a CD changer. As I understand it, I need to take the radio out, connect the Aux2car in the back of the head unit and reinstall. Correct? I have read some posting that say there is a connector under the carpet on the passenger side. I have to take the radio out anyway to replace the hazard switch, but wanted to confirm what you had found out when you did the connection? Any advice will be appreciated.

My 2000 has the connectors for the CORHAR (CD harness) in the passanger footwell. That along with the AUXBOX will allow you to add any audio device to your car.
