Default Seamless iPod Dock Installed w/pics (Spec.dock)

So I got my new iPod Touch and was just suck of the way I had it setup. The wire for the iPod was coming out of the center console and dangling around. My cup holder dock did the job, but it looked ugly and bulky.

I went ahead and ordered the spec.dock ($150) so I could hide the wires and have an easy dock to mount the iPod. It's expensive yes, but oh well, it's exactly what I wanted. It makes mounting and dismounting the iPod much easier, and best of all the wire is completely hidden. However, doing so required drilling a whole thru the bottom of the cup holder so the wire would run under it. I figure it's not too big a deal. If I ever need to get rid of the car and need to replace the cup holder, it won't be a big issue. Then I ran the wire under the trim, along the E-Brake boot and up inside the center console and back to my rack under the carpet.

Now it looks seamless and neat. Very happy with the results. I love that I can simply dismount it, close the cup holder and put the iPod in the center console and nobody knows the wiser.

Here's a before and after:

BEFORE (Yuck!):

AFTER:

By the way, the spec.dock works with the USA-Spec interface. You just have to replace the wire running from the USA-Spec box to the iPod with the one connected to the spec.dock.

It looks like the only thing holding the touch is the connector...

Is there anything else giving some support to the touch?

Very clean, but I had the same question. If it's the only support I'd be worried about the dock connector in the iPod itself.

But otherwise very cool.

It's basically like any of the Apple docks with the little craddle where the plug sticks up through it. It actually does a good job of holding it in place. It's not going to go anywhere while sitting in there, unless you are doing some serious off roading or something.

The little craddle (The white part) is curved to fit the shape of the iPod so it fits in nice and doesn't wiggle around or anything, but yea, the plug is basically what secures it in place.
