I have a 94 with the stock bose radio. I do not like it, but I don't like the controls on any of the aftermarket stuff I have seen either. Would it be possilbe to take a non-bose head unit from a c5 and mount it in a c4. I would be open to the radio from a camaro/firebird since it works the same. Would I be able to use the speed volume control? I would like to use this non-bose stock radio along with an aftermarket amp and speakers. Is this possible?
al c5 radios are bose. your best bet is to get a radio from a 97 or so cavalier or S10 pickup its a non bose piece and will work in a non bose car. as far as it working with your stock bose amp i have no clue, but with a LOC you could use it with an aftermarket amp

The bose system is listed under the options on the window sticker for my 2000 vette. I don't think they all came with bose.
The C5 radio communicates with the BCM over the communications link. I don't think it will work without the communications. Actually, the C5 radio does not have key switched power supplied to it so the communications link controls turning it on and off.
Does anyone know if a stereo from a camaro/firebird would work? They don't have as much electronics as the c5. The front of the stereo has the exact same controls, but it is not bose.
My brochure for the 2000 corvette clearly lists "Bose speaker and amplified system" as optional for the hardtop. Does that mean that the head unit is still bose, but the speakers are not amplified? That is why I don't understand the statement above that all c5s have bose.
OK every C5 has same setup some are casette some are cd. There is a bose signal processor and the speakers are powered by the radio, the subs are amped by the bose. Regardless no C5 radio will work because it wont turn on without the c5 computer telling it to.
A late model camaro radio will most likely work pending its from a non monsoon car, a monsoon radio might work but idk. Liek i said best bet is a cavalier, blazer or s10 radio, from like a 97 or so, ive done this more then once. It is important to make sure the car it is from doesnt use a BCM signal to power the radio. I know the camaros dont use a BCM signal so they will work I just dont know if it being a monsoon system or not effects it.
