I need some advice/feedback. I will most likely be replacing my stock system this week on my '08. Leaning towards the Pioneer AVIC D3. Is it possible to retain the functionality of the steering wheel controls, HUD radio feature, and the OnStar functions with this system?
What special adaptors will be needed?
The AVIC-D3 is a good choice. I have it, along with the Bose & OnStar. You can retain the functionality of the OnStar for sure. You will need Peripheral Electronics GMAH-24B(w/ Bose) or GMAH-24(w/o Bose) interface adapter to hook the headunit up to your C6. Now to keep the steering wheel controls, you will need another adpater for this, and it is a lengthy involved install. I was told by my local shop, it is not worth it. About the HU display, I think we are out of luck. I have the HU display, and it does not have any of the functionality of the stock head unit. Oh well I guess. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
Steering wheel controls & Onstar yes, HUD no.
The Peripheral GMAH24B (IIRC takes 3LT to get HUD, that means you have Bose) plus the GMAHCM (required for chimes) will get the interface to the Bose, Onstar and Chimes taken care of.
For steering wheel controls it reads like the Peripheral PESWIPS would do the job.
There are also modules available from PAC, Metra and Scosche to get these things done, but the Peripheral is more common around here and that's the info I have handy.

Thanks for the info!
I'm taking out the bose speakers also, and replacing it with a focal 3-way setup.
Will the adaptors you mentioned still work?

Yes they will, but then the only purpose they will serve is chimes & Onstar interface. What you may want to do is connect the speaker output of the AVIC to the GMAH24B so it will drive the center channel for Onstar.
Now are you just replacing the Bose speakers, or the whole Bose system, including the amp? If replacing the whole system, you will just need a GMAH-24, and then you can hook the new speakers directly to the head unit speaker wiring. Or you can run that wiring to amps, and then to your speakers.

I'm replacing everything. It will have a new amp, and speakers.

That was the assumption from which I was working when I made the statement re:Onstar from dash speaker. Running Focal 3-ways off head power would be.... counterproductive.
Actually now that I think about it... you don't really want to hook the Pio's outputs up to the GMAH24B at all or you'd get output for music to that speaker. Just connecting up the GMAH24B *should* output info to the Bose if you leave that dash speaker connected. Please keep in mind I have no Onstar experience and I'm just working from logic....
What amp is the center speaker hooked to, in stock form? The Bose amp? It would be cool to see a wiring diagram.

Unfortunately, you guys have surpassed my basic knowledge about the setup at this point
The shop that's doing the work will hopefully post up the process/pics when they're done (John @ LI Sounds). I spoke to him earlier, and he knows exactly how to hook it up, as he's done it before. I was just worried as I drove the car for the 2nd time last night and realized how much stuff was hooked up to the stereo.
Thanks for info all!

Congrats on the new car and good luck with the installer!

Yes, the "center" speaker is driven by the Bose amp, or by the Delphi amp in non-Bose systems. I put that in quotes because it's really not a distinct channel but more a mish-mash of the L/R front with the supposed intent of clarifying the stage. It's usefulness is debatable in the stock system, for an aftermarket system it's only use is for something as I described re: Onstar.
