C6 install - route power to amp
I'm about to start an install on my C6. I'll be running power from the battery to the amp in the trunk. Is there a good, clean route to go through the firewall into the passenger side foot well?
pull the battery out there is a gromet there to work with, piece of cake
It's right behind the battery, you can see the hole where that grommet is in the pic below (its to the left and slightly lower than the battery tray). As can also be seen in that pic, I prefer not to cut the factory grommet, paranoia for leaking. So we drilled a hole through the firewall and used a compression grommet.
Then just ran the power wire under the carpet all the way down the right side of the car.
From: ECS : WTF did you break now and HTF did you break it this time
heh, yet another of the NE crew changing everything audio in his car.
What good stuff did you decide to go with ben? I just did everything in the Z back in the spring, Lemme know if you need any advice, most of it all carrys over one body style to the next. I've only done a few stereos...They're a breeze now but seeing hack jobs i'm the only person I'd trust to do my cars.
Komo's right, DON'T cut the factory grommet. That's a hack that can lead to problems which are very difficult to correct once they appear. Go to darvex.com and order the correct-size compression grommet.
cutting the grommet is a big no no. On the other hand, I have used the factory grommet to feed the power wire. Plenty of room to push a wire through. Just un-tape it, feed wire and re-tape once you're all set.
