Default Radar Detector Remote Control Mount

I like the Passport 8500, and I have the "smartcord" for it. I would like to use this to hardwire the radar detector. The question is where to mount it on a C6?

I know the V1 also has a remote display, so where have you mounted that one?

I know the V1 is great, blah, blah, blah. I already HAVE the 8500, so no need to sell me on arrows.

On my C5 I had it just under the center vents with the wire running through the seam between the vents and the radio bezels. However, the C6 doesn't have this seam.

Suggestions?

On my 2008 Coupe, mounted a Passport 9500i on the passenger visor with clip from Escort. Escort literature says unit must be mounted so it is visible thru window for GPS to work but their phone Tech said with a Corvette it should be OK is not in window since it does not have a metal roof! He was correct-GPS works fine. If you want a description with photos of how to mount and tie in with the mirror wiring (power is only on when car is running) email, I'll send a PDF.

Did you install the remote mute / control button? The so called: "Smart cord?"

That is the item I am wondering where to mount.

Talk about a late response! Sorry. Loved the 9500i. Marked all of the speed traps in my area, especially the sneaky ones where they go from 55 mph to 35 and have a cop hired on Friday thru Sunday only to catch the folks going to Myrtle Beach! I live in that area and it’s easy to forget! The unit was mounted on the passenger sun visor with a clip sold by Escort. By tapping into the mirror don’t ever forget to turn it on; it’s on when the car starts. It is also up high so not that visible but it is easily removed and reattached when parked in a questionable area. The small phone plug on the side of the Passport easily removes and sits above the sun visor when it’s removed. Actually just sold it with the car -while waiting for my C7. Will buy the latest Passport and install it the same way.

Purchased a Passport Max for the soon to be delivered, C7. I'll mount mine high on the windshield using their new bracket. Thought I would power it from the mirror as I did the Passport 9500 on the C6..
I just came back from Laguna Seca and was able to look at the mirror power. However GM has all the wires in the bracket holding the mirror, none are exposed! Even if I could figure out how to remove the mirror from the bracket it does not look easy to get spliced wires out for the detector . Looked at the possibility of using the vanity mirror power on the passenger side as I did with my '87 Vette. Was able to check and removing the visor looks like it will be easy. Unlike the C5 and C6 where you rotate the attachment a 1/4 turn, this one has a snap-on bezel. Sitting in one C7 I put my nail under the bezel and it popped off! There are 3 screws holding the sun shade bracket. They look to be small star bolt heads. Should be able to access the mirror power when it’s off. From there can splice the Passport Max power cord into the mirror power and it should be a neat installation. We’ll see when my C7 is delivered, now moved from mid-September to mid-October!
