Default Getting ready to install AVIC D3

I've asked a lot of questions about this install and the answers I get back from the forum members has been great. My install will be just the head unit (for now) connected to the factory non Bose amp and speakers via a peripheral GMCO interface. I need clarification on the following:

1) Assuming I'll get the "pop" when powering down/changing sources, are ground loop isolators necessary or is there another way around this? If I need the isolators, do I install one per RCA plug?

2) Antenna amplifier trigger, is this +12V from the D3 or must I first reduce this to +5V via a voltage regulator?

3) Does the amp require a trigger signal from the D3 or is this handled by the GMCO via the data bus?

4) For illumination dimmer control of the D3, I plan on tapping off the traction control light. Is this correct?

Thanks again

The isolators are the easiest way around this. The ones from Radio Shack are in stereo pairs so you'll need 2 of them, one for front, one for rear.

The Vette's antenna amp is +5 so yes, the best way to deal with that is to use the antenna trigger and step it down from 12 to 5V using a regulator.

The GMCO will handle the amp trigger.

That is correct. There's a thread linked in the C6 audio FAQ stickied at the top of this section that details which wires to use.

Good luck!

I installed a D3 in my 08 this past weekend, so far I really like it. The sound quality hasn't improved much over the stock system since I'm reusing the factory amp/speaker setup - I think my next project will be to replace them.

I was getting the popping sound on power down and the ground loop isolators did the trick for me.

Will connecting the illumination wire from the D3 to the illumination wire on the GMAH24 accomplish the same thing? Or does the illum wire on the GMAH24 not function as expected? How can I tell if the illumination is working properly on the radio?

I didn't use a regulator for the antenna trigger line - just connected them, but my am/fm reception seems to be fine. Is it possible the antenna amp is working without using the regulator?

Can you post some pics of the final work or progress? I'm interested in putting one in there also. Thx.

fyi, The illumination wire on the gmah24 apparently does not work as advertised - I had to run the illum wire from my D3 to the traction control gray wire for the dim feature to work properly. This info had previously been posted, but like a child I sometimes need to find out for myself...
