What DIN size is Eclipse nav?
1) the JVC KD NX5000, but I've read that it's actually larger than 1 DIN, but not as large as 1-1/2 DIN, so a standard HUMOUNT kit doesn't quite fit, and
2) the Eclipse nav unit with the flip-up screen, but I don't want a flip-up screen that blocks the air conditioning vent.
There are 4 or 5 other Eclipse nav units that are true in-dash (i.e. not flip-up) - are all of these 2 DIN?
Any guidance from those with Eclipse nav units would be greatly appreciated.
Im looking to do this also, this is what I have so far:
Yes, they all offer 2 din NAV units.
I dont want to do the bezel mod at this time, so Im looking for single din solutions. I'm only looking at systems that have the following characteristics:
Single din flip out touch panel with
AM/FM/DVD/Ipod/Bluetooth and NAV (preferably other than DVD Nav, dont like the idea of having to have the nav dvd in all the time and have to worry about scratching it, would like map data either hard drive or an SD card)
Some of the single din units I have found are:
Eclipse AVN 7000. HDD (not DVD) NAV Sirius (but no XM).
Kenwood KVT 719 + G510 Nav
Pioneer N4 (flip out but DVD nav)
Clarion VRX 775 VD + NAX 970 HD Nav (dont remember why Im not persuing this one, but Im not, possibly if I remember correctly you have to run the nav with a remote (not by touchscreen)).
Then I found this:
Valor 720W + NAV -1
This is a single din, flip out, with AM/FM/CD/DVD, with an Ipod int built in (with the cable) and bluetooth built in (with the cable) and an XM interface built in (need cable from XM receiver, not provided with this unit) and an HDD based Nav unit (comes with the unt) for about $1000.
Ya I know, sick (everything included at that price).
Im holding off on this unit due to the lack of information or reviews I have been able to find on the web. I did speak to a distributor of Valor Mulitmedia stuff, she said they have been using them since September, that it was one of the largest electronics manufacturers in China, starting a presence here. She says the models they use (not the 720) look well made and they have installed a lot of them with no problems or returns. Im still looking at this one.
The other possibility (and the way Im leaning right now) is a car computer:
Xenarc MDT-X7000 Head unit (amp/AM/FM/CD/DVD) single din with a flip out screen that has aux + NSTC PAL + VGA + DVI input.
A car computer from Mp3car.com (dont know which one yet)
and a front end software package (like StreetDeck or Centrafuse).
This allows most of the stuff to come directly from the head unit (am/fm/cd/dvd and maybe XM) while also allowing you to do the Ipod (or any music file storage/play from the computer with a 120 gig drive) and bluetooth and nav from the computer through the software front end.
You could use whatever nav software you wanted (its a regular Windows XP machine) pluse you can run any windows based app right in the car. Not to mention having WI-FI access to browse the web from the car :-)
What you see in the dash is a regular looking flip screen monitor, and the pc should be about 5 x 5 x 2 inches mounted elsewhere, and its powered by an automotive grade power supply (no hassels with voltage spikes etc).
Price depends on what you're adding, I guess what I outlined above (in first section) will be around $1400 if I go with the computer.
Still working on it.
Good luck
