Default SIR GM1 Install

I am considering installing the SIR GM1 in an 05 Coupe. I have read where someone installed the Sirius antenna at the 3rd brake light area under the fiberglass with the use of a self made mount. Would it be possible and would the antenna be able to pick up if it was mounted under the painted area between the removable top and the hatch. I have not removed the cover in the area before and thought that might work also. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

That is certainly possible, but reports on which is the "best" location seem more than a bit debatable. My experience with Sirius is that the signal quality is pretty crappy in any kind of area with buildings or trees and then when you combine that with a fibreglass car where you are giving up a bunch of antenna surface area it makes for down-right awful reception. I use the stock XM antenna for the SIR-GM1 in my '06 Vert and the reception is only slightly worse than it ever was using a Sirius magnetic antenna on the roof of my Avalanche daily driver.

All of this comes down to... it's darned hard to say. A number of folks have reported good reception burying the antenna in the dash behind the radio by where the center channel speaker is, some in that brake light area and even some under the hood. Wish I had something more concrete for ya.. but you are seeking the holy grail!

Thanks for your reply Komoman, from reading your post's and info that you have given other's I was kinda hoping you would reply to this post. Thanks for the input. I may just end up puting it a the top of the hatch glass. I have an antenna now for a portable one that I have already was just trying to get rid of the visable antenna and have the Sirius show up on the Nav screen. Thanks again.
