Default C6 Bose Replacement Question

Thanks in advance for indulging my questions. I've tried to read most of the threads in this section regarding system swaps, and most of my questions have been answered.

Here's my current setup: 2005 C6 Coupe with Bose System w/in dash 6CD Changer (No Nav) and On-Star.

Upgrading to: AVIC-Z2, XM Traffic, Bluetooth, & iPod. For Phase One, I plan to keep the Bose Speakers. May eventually upgrade speakers one day, especially if the sound is crappy. I'm not an audiophile, and frankly, the "sound" of the current system suits my ears fine. My main reason for the upgrade is In-dash Nav, XM, Bluetooth, and iPod, not sound quality or lack there of (sure to get flamed for this ) Also have all necessary adaptors GMAH24B/GMCHM & antennae adapt.

Questions:

1. Since I currently do not have NAV, do I have VSS and Reverse in the factory harness plugged into current Bose system? If so...what color are they? If not, are they located behind wheelwell, and again, what colors?

2. Do I need any type of dash kit for this unit to fit or is a direct replacement?

Thanks for your help.

1. Don't worry about the VSS wire, it's more of a hassle than it's worth. You only need the reverse wire if you're hooking up a backup cam and that isn't on your list.

2. You do need a dash kit. I recommend the Metra 95-3304. I picked one up at the big auction site for about $15, but you can find them at brick & mortar places as well. The Metra has a pebbled surface that is not a great match for the other stock pieces, but it can be sanded smooth to match pretty well.

Thanks so much for the reply...I appreciate it. Please don't mis-interpret this, as I mean no disrespect, and I do recognize your vast knowledge in this subject.

For arguments sake, say I'm a bit "retentive" on the subject and wanted to go by the book on the VSS Wire and Reverse Wire issue(possible future upgrade), where would I locate these within my setup?

Once again, thanks for your patience with me.

No disrespect taken, cause I can respect your take for sure.. but sometimes you just have to test the waters with these things. There are threads in the C6 Audio FAQ stickied at the top of the section that detail where those are, but I don't recall off the top of my head. Check the Kenwood 7100 thread done by 30MilesOffshore.. he covered TONS of topics in that one, might be in there.

Thanks so much for you assistance. I'll do a bit more research. I sure hope I have these wires in the cockpit vs. outside in teh wheelwell. I guess it's a crapshoot since I'm not replacing Nav for Nav. Once again thanks. Enjoyed "typing" with you.

You have the Bose system so yes, you have the VSS wire at the black 12 pin wiring harness that goes into the back of the stereo.
The Reverse Gear wire is located in the wire bundle at the BCM which is found in the passenger side floorboard right next to the fuse box. It is the light green wire, there is only one so it isn't hard to find.

Just follow the thread linked bellow and you will be fine. Just ignore the part about changing the speakers and amp. The rest is everything you will need, including how to keep your OnStar working with the new HU.

Thanks to both TheKomoman and Nomad for the info.

Plan on doing the install with a friend of mine who has done a similar install (D3) in his C5.
