Greetings. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to car audio and have been doing research to replace the stock Blowes system in my Z. Why are Phoenix Gold amps so "inexpensive"?? They are substantially cheaper than say the big retail name brands (Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, etc.) Please help a newbie like myself understand the pricing structure of amps. I am looking to get a decent 4 channel amp to run a set of front components and a single 10" sub. I want to be able to hear the stereo when driving at 70mph with the windows down, but dont need to make my ears bleed. Thanks in advance!
Ive used a few of the Ocatane R PG amps, which are like a year of 2 older. They are just a cheaped lower end amp. If you posted a budget with what you wanted im sure we could find you a few amps. I actually find Pioneer to be a good amp that can be had for cheap
They went the way of Orion and MB Quart... high-end companies bought out who began producing crap trading on their old reputations, and now they're widely regarded as third or fourth tier if not worse.
Kale - I am having trouble finding any info on the Phoenix Gold amps other than the "new one" (Ryval I think). Rodin Audio apparently is the parent company for the Phoenix Gold brand name. Their site lists RMS.
Budget?? Still working on that as I do my research. Trying to stay below $1000 but the one thing I DO know is that the head unit will be a Pioneer DEH-P590IB. I have found a site where I can get that for $115. So that leaves me approximately $885 for a set of component fronts - I'm thinking 6.5" components, a 10" sub and a decent 4ch amp. BUT, just because I have a "budget" of $1000, doesnt mean I NEED to spend $1000. If I can get what suits me for $500, then of course I only want to spend $500 - then I can use the $500 I saved and take my wife out to dinner, twice. LOL! I have yet to narrow down the front speakers and go and listen to them (if I can - I want to try and find a local retail shop that sells what I think I will like so I can listen to them). In doing my reading, most say to spend more on the front speakers and to make sure the amp has adequate power (better to have a little more than I need than to not have enough). I can install everything myself, so I dont need to spend any coin on install. Front speakers, I plan on buying what sounds the best to my ear. Subs and amps, dont have a clue! LOL! Dont need to impress any friends, dont need to win any contests (I'll be "hiding" the amp - and the sub will be in a "stealth" box), dont need to shatter the glass in the car, just want a smooth sounding system. Thanks again.
