I've always used cone type mids, but what I'm planning now requires a shallow mount midrange...

It's a very good driver. Lower limit is about 600 Hz, upper is about 4500, both assuming 24 dB/oct acoustic slopes. A 12 dB slope will move both numbers. Beyond those points, distortion increases dramatically. You'll likely need some impedance compensation at the crossover point to the tweeter. If you intend to use 3-way active, things will change somewhat, but a few passive components will still be necessary to get it to sound its best. Just in case it's overlooked, this thing is over 5" in diameter.
