Default C5 Front Replacement Speaker

I been reading about replacing the front bose speaker. They are 8" woofers? Am I correct. How come I always see people using adapters to put 6.5 components. So here it comes. Can I just add another 8" sub?

because a 6.5" 2 way sets are extremely common and easy to come by. Some people run 8" 2 ways, and some run more complicated 3 way set ups... I'd stick with a traditional 6.5 2 way since you are just starting out.

Luckily kale and pentavolvo caught me about to do the same thing last week. I had just bought to 8" subs and was going to replace the 3 1/2" in the door as well but with subs in the back already I would have no mid range up front and it wouldnt sound all that good.

Thanks I see what your saying!
But just out of curiosity is there no way at all to add 8" speakers to the front and still have them sound good?
Also what about 6x9's? Would those be okay to put in the front?

Here's a pic of my door set up. These are Dynaudio Mw172 8" midranges.

The number of 8" midranges that can play high enough to run in a 2 way is very limited, and you need a tweeter capable of playing very low.

These run about $500 a pair, just for the midranges.

Now you can also do a 3 way, with a dedicated 8" midbass run to about 250hz or so. Pretty much any 8" midbass can do that with ease. But then you have to have a total of 6 channels of amplification for your front speakers, as well as find somewhere to build a 4" or 5" midrange spekaer into... it's just complicated.

6x9s are a possibility. ID makes a 6x9 2 way comp set that has had some pretty good reviews, but it is ridiculously expensive.

If you are on a budget and are looking at coax speakers, I would go with a 6x9 coax over a 6.5 coax in the door for sure.

However with 6x9s and 8s you run into issues of off axis response. Mine are aimed up with angled rings (not shown in picture) so even if you cross them relatively low (2.5khz in my case) you can still end up with the system being a little soft in the midrange.

But it was a sacrifice I waswilling to make to be able to run my front spekaers down to 50hz and get more midbass.

hhmmm im not really on a budget. But i dont want to drop like 2-3 grand on a system. Im pretty happy in the power department right now so Im just trying to upgrade the system, damplifier the inside and do some detail work on the car until I try to get a new motor for FI.

I see what your saying about the dificulty. I wouldn't mind paying 500 for those 8's. If I got those I can just add tweeters to run lows and I would be good with the front?

Im just wondering would these work?

yeah but really... then you have to go active, the doors have to be insanely deadened... still need tweeters, extra amps, etc etc.

i would look at Focal K2P Power series. It's a great 6.5 two way set. Just add amp. Somewhat bright sound, very lively, detailed, with good midbass.

yeah, i plan to get tweeters, amp, subs and a new HU. Yea i think I will just stick with 6.5 compnents with tweeters. I think If i get two twelves in the back i should be good on the bass. I will check those Focal K2P power series out.
Thanks for all your help.

Two twelves in a vette will blow your mind. If you are going with sound quality, a nice single 12 with about ~500 watts of power and turned down halfway will sound really nice.

I don't know if you will need 2 12's. I have one and it provides more bass than my fronts can provide mids and highs. I have it running at ~ 30% to achieve a nice balance (separate sub controller as well) and it will still make your ears bleed.

I am contemplating moving the tweets to the A pillar and filling the doors with 8's so that the bass can come up on power a little and increase the SPL overall without losing SQ.

I put in 6X9's in the front (Infintiy), but after wiring it all up to the stock unit (transplanted the BOSE amps to the new speakers), YUK.

Now I am shopping for a new head unit.
