Can anyone tell me if "component video" cables can be used to hook the amp to the tuner? I am not savy enough to know if regular RCA cables and these are the same. I have a really expensive set of cables that was used on my HD tv cable set-up, I am not using them anymore and want to know if they can be used to hook up my new infinity amp to the car tuner. The car tuner has two pair of red/white rca jacks on the back, the component video cables are the red/blue/green. Probably a dumb question....thought I might save some money...
I guess, but car audio rca cables are like $10 if you get the cheaper RF or JL lines... Plus the ends are smaller and the cables are thinner so they aren't a bitch to route.
Kale's right, there's no reason to use anything fancy. I'm assuming you have the standard component-video wires. They're 75-ohm, like every other model. The only real difference is the color of the plug.
As far as routing... don't run them parallel to power wires, crossing over at right angles where possible. Tape up any exposed connections (like where the outer ring on the tip is exposed) that lay loose.
thanks agian, I bought an amplifier off ebay last night, did not get the best ( JL audio) but got something that was in my price range. I ended up getting an infinity 500watt 4 channel amp. That should more than power the Polk Momo 6x9's and 5.25's I have installed. I have a wire that is the acc. wire (that only is hot when the key is turned on), will that wire be okay to splice into to power the amp? it was the wire in the compartment behind the passengers seat for the stock system that I took out.
The amp that I bought is rated @ 110 watts @ 4 ohms per channel max. The 5.25's that I have installed in the front can handle that wattage but, could I run both front speakers off of one channel and use the remaining channel for say a small sub?? I really hate that "thump thump" music, but a little bass never hurts.
