How long do I need to get RCA's and power wires for a stereo install in a C5? amplifiers will likely be mounted to the backmost panel in the hatch area. I think I'll run the power wires from the battery through the P200 grommet and under the carpet on the far side of the passenger's side, then route it up into the hatch area under the carpet on the passenger's side. I think I will run the RCA's down from the receiver and under the center console (tied carefully to be clear of the shifter) strait back and into the hatch area. after it gets over the "hump" which separates the passenger area from the hatch area I'll run the RCA's over to the driver's side under the carpet and back around the outside of the hatch area and to the amplifiers.
So for those of you who have ventured into C5 audio before me, is this a good routing plan for wires? how long of a power wire do I need to follow that route (approximately) and how long of RCA cables do I need to get to follow the route described (approximately)
The Knu RCA cables I bought were sold in Lengths of meters. I got the 4 meter one for my sub amp. The only difference is I'm going from a processor located behind the driver's seat. I'd suggest 6 meters and you'll have extra length. If you want to cut it down, you can and then re-attach the terminals.
As far as Power wire goes, I happen to have my original chart lengths on hand . I ran my main power wire a little differently. Instead of running on the floor next to the door, I went on the floor next to the center tunnel. This wire route is about 14 feet. Your route would be about the same depending on where the power input on your amp is.
Ground wire from that location to the outside rear seat bolt is about 10 feet.
If you're doing a multiple amp setup, you should take into account the preferred location of your distribuion blocks. I used 2 Distribution blocks (one for power and one for ground) to make the wiring uniform and neat.
Be careful of KnuKonceptz power wire. Some of it is actually copper clad aluminum, they don't make it very clear. Steer clear of the cheap "CCA" stuff. You want pure copper only.
thanks for the help guys! where did you mount your distribution blocks? I haven't sized what I want yet althought I may be running either 2 or 3 amps when I'm done. at first it looked like they might fit behind the carpet just below the latches for the rear hatch. I would have to route it away from the linkages but there seemed to be some room there to work with.
I've also looked at a few installs which put amps behind the driver's and passenger's seats. what is everyone's thoughts on this location? it keeps the amps out of the way which is a plus, they are also easy to access which is nice. but it looks like the seat sits all the way back there and would end up resting on the amps if I put them there. but a number of people have used this location, so is that incorrect?
Behind the seat mounting may cause a slight decrease in reclining clearence (especially since you'll need a good anchorboard) If you don't have a power passenger seat, under the seat should be good spot.
I mounted my Dist blocks out in the open cause I like to show off.
